Wheel and tyre advice

So I seem to have inherited a Z4 with an odd wheel/tyre combo. Wondering if anyone could help me out. I don’t believe any of them are standard on my 2006 2.5?

I have 3 of this style;



I have one odd wheel in this style;



Not sure which ones were meant for the Z4?

I also have 225/40/18 tyres in the front and 225/45/18 tyres on the rear. Looking at other posts and websites, it seems most have the same height sidewall front/rear or even smaller sidewall at the rear, 225/35/18 for example? Not sure why this is.

Wondering if it’s worth finding a matching 4th wheel or changing the style? I’ve spotted these that I quite like. Anyone had them on a Z4 and if so would I need spacers? I believe the rears are a little wider than the fronts

The three you have the same are very popular. Style 107, look nice and are easy to clean.
They should be a staggered set:
Front 8x18, ET47, 225/40x18
Rear 8.5x18, ET50, 255/35 x18
So your first step is to check what wheel sizes you have.
Personally I'd be looking for a fourth one of those (though it could turn out you need a pair?)

Even if you decide to swap wheels, I think you'd sell a set of four more easily.

The second picture is a 107.
The top pic, though similar, is a different design and I can't remember the number of it.
However, my info regarding sizes etc still stands.

yes, very strange... you've got 3x Style 202s, and 1x style 107.

if you're running 225 width tyres front and rear, i'd really want to get all the wheels off and see what the actual widths of each wheel is - a correct matching set of all 107s or 202s should be 8" width at the front, and 8.5" width at the rears.

i wonder if someone cracked an original 202, then accidentally bought a 107 to replace it - so theres the potential that you've got different width wheels on the same axle...

ps standard size tyres on correctly staggered wheels is 225/40/R18 front, and 255/35/R18 on the rear. if you have 8" wheels all round you can also run 225/40/R18s all round, and as an added bonus the car will be a bit less understeery.

The ones at the bottom of your post are style 461. These are actually a little less aggressive than the stock Z4 fitment that others have mentioned above. They are:

Front: 18x7.5J ET45 (suited to a 225/40R18)
Rear 18x8J ET52 (suited to a 245/35R18)

This means they are actually half an inch narrower than their respective stock Z4 wheels and will poke out 4.3mm less than stock at the front and 8.3mm less than stock at the rear. Of course, this can be corrected with spacers if you want. As to whether they will fit without spacers, I don't know, but rarely can you move a wheel "inboard" and it not clash with something (strut or caliper).

I didn’t realise the stock rear wheels should be wider than the fronts, that makes my set up even more curious

I’ll have the car on a two post lift on Monday to adjust the tracking. I’ll get wheel widths checked at the same time.

There’s not an awful lot of tread left on the rear two tyres and one of the fronts sounds like it was supplied from B&M or pound land So if I was to change wheels, now would probably be the time to do it!

So the style 107 on the rear must be a front wheel
I appear to have 3 x 8” wheels and 1 x 8.5” wheel
On the look out for either a spare to replace my odd rear wheel. Or a full set of something matching!

I did set the tracking, as well as I could given my current wheel set up!

Also found that the battery that was installed was incorrect, should be an 80Ah but found a 40Ah fitted! May explain why the car struggled to turn over. New battery in place and it starts straight away

Style 202's (the ones you have 3 of) are quite rare so sourcing a spare one might be tricky. I'd advise getting a new set of wheels to whatever is your favourite style. 108 and 135 are the most popular, but there are plenty of others to choose from!

If you're a member of the Facebook group (BMW Z4 UK Owners Club) there's a guy called Simon Ireland who often sells various refurbed wheel sets usually for around £500-600. I'm not sure if he is on the forum or not.

I’m finding that with the 202’s seem very scarce? Are the others you mention also a staggered fit?

107s, 108s, 202s and MV2s (also known as 135s) were all staggered 18s with 8J ET47 front and 8.5J ET50 rears.

But I did buy a set of MV2 Replicas a few years ago that were all 8J ET40. Fitted fine but they'd need to be cheaper than OE ones!

E46 3 Series had the same sizes and offsets as E85s so if you see something you like that might widen your options. I really like Style 32s but they were fitted to other BMW models as well in different sizes and offsets, so you need to be sure you are getting the right ones.

Although they have different offsets I ran a set of 295s from and E89 on my previous Coupe without any rubbing issues, but they did sit much further out in the wheelarches!
