What's wrong with people-valve caps stolen an damage to tyre

Off to the local Police station tomorrow. Can't go today as they're closed on a SUnday!
Just been to check my car over for the week ahead and found the two metal valve caps from the front of my car have been stolen. They're nothing special, not M caps, just metal caps worth pennies. The rears are plastic and were not stolen. The two exposed tyres (drivers side) have had a number of drawing pins pushed into them. What the heck is wrong with people? This must have happened last night as I used the car yesterday evening and the pins have all been pushed in the most exposed areas of the tyres (tops) and around the outside so have not been picked up from the road or anything.
Have removed the pins, checked the pressures and all seems okay. The tread is getting low so was a bit concerned they might have pentrated right through..
I know it's not a big issue and the Police will probably do bugger all but at least if I catch someone in future and get myself in trouble I'll be partly covered :).
Might have to think about getting some kinda of camera surveliance setup (although also looking to move soon), anyone got any recommendations?

I live in a reasonable quiet small town but over recent years it's just been going downhill, I think that's the same everywhere these days.

Yep, but to be honest I care less about that, but to push pins into the tyres I class that as criminal damage and could be a safety issue. Why would someone do that?
Tempted to put a notice in the window along the lines of "...and if my tyres blew out and I died how would you feel?" but I guess that could be asking for more trouble.
 
You do have to wonder what goes through people's minds when they do thinks like this.. It's the same with keying cars, just beyond any reasonable logic. Unfortunately jealously or even boredom takes over. The people who do it are cowards..
 
Metal caps are quite expensive for some people. IIRC Halfords sells 5 metal caps for £3.99.
 
I wouldnt report it. With all respect to the police theres nothing they can possibly do. All you will do is add another crime statistic to your street and your insurance premiums will go up.

I would set up some CCTV, then if you catch them go and drill through their kneecaps :)

drill through their kneecaps ......... :x ? not the way to solve this :? besides you end up paying the hospital bill and some :violent1: mad parent will hit you over the head. I'll take there trousers away and let them find there way home without them :rofl:

I feel for you ... a few years ago someone keyed my daughters car all around including the hood and the trunk, repainting for the E28 to original color was $6,000.00 .... our solution was to rent a garage and no longer park in the street.

As to what is wrong with people, well it is a different generation growing up, no respect for property and jealous as to what another person has. I only hope some day those individuals will experience the same ... and the way things are and progress I am sure it will happen to them too in a much worse way ...
 
I know the feeling. After having a few sets of Dust caps stolen. About a year ago I invested in a set of chrome locking Dust caps, hoping this would stop the mindless little morons from steeling them again.
I took my wheels off last week to clean and polish to get ready for the winter, and what did I find, the little shits have tried to wrench one of the caps off with pliers. They failed, but in doing so, butchered the alloy around the valve cap. after reparing the wheel as best I could. I have now reverted to bog standard plastic caps. rather let them have them if it means keeping my wheels damage free.

I hate to say it but I guess its a price us owners pay for having good looking cars, sadly they can attract the scumbag element in our society who think they can take or damage whatever they want, makes me sick.!!
 
I thought this had died a death, hadn't had any swiped for years. But, sure enough, couple of weeks ago, all four disappeared. Only consolation was that wheels were really scruffy, hopefully they're still trying to get brake dust off their hands.

I'd like to catch em at it - pour petrol in their hair and set fire to the buggers, :fuelfire: then ask them to do a James brown impersonation when they've finished with the Michael Jackson one, :D that'll learn em, either that or nail their hands to the rear bumper and take them for a very long run at 100+, see how they like it up em eh????

On a more serious note though I'd advise the CCTV option which I have experience of- after a long list of malicious damage to cars on our drive I fitted CCTV & caught the ShizBucket from up the road that was the culprit and threatened to send him to jail. (I think sending the boys round to him when he was in bed had a more ready effect though! :evil: )

My drive crime has reduced to Zero after installing day / night 24 infra red surveillance system which even caught the local "travellers" trying to nick a bin off my drive :o OH the endless need for "any old Iron" eh- provided the Bill with a CD of the white van, the reg, the two culprits and even their names, couldn't ask for more.. nuff said.

If you want some further advice on what route to take, let me know and I can advise you depending on your budget. All depends what you want from the system, i.e. do you just want to find out who it is and hammer them yerself, :wink: or do you want court admissible evidence that you can pass to the police?

Report it - the police record all incidents of crime which includes type, date, time, location etc. Using this basic information crime patterns and trends can be identified and appropriate action taken to increase patrol activity in these areas. And if they do catch someone then at least other incidents have the potential for detection (not that the courts do a lot - pat on the back and government handout for drugs and drink).

Possibly not a lot will happen when you report it (you can do it online) - the cops are so lumbered with bureacratic paperwork required by the courts for even the most trivial offence; compliance with ludicrous bits of legislation to ensure the druggies, wasters, nere-do-wells, minority 'nonsense' groups, freeloaders from around the world (it's all free in the UK!) are all treated with kid gloves etc that they dont have a lot of time for much else. Of course we live in a democratic society where our vote dictates the government that's in power and our curreent legislation and police service is a reflection of that vote.

So it's all our (UK) fault really..... RANT OVER :headbang:

Lucky you spotted them... but your right what if you had a blow out on the motorway due to this? What satisfaction can they possibly get from this?!
