Just a quicky, would i be correct in saying this lead dangling below the dash is a "aux in" and that its used to plug in an ipod or whatever,

That end of the cable is for Apple devices only. This includes iPods, iPads and iPhones. You will need to check for compatibility though to make sure which models are supported (e.g. not all functions such as charging may work).
