Hi all,
im a reasonably new Z4 owner (2005 model 2.2 in sterling grey with the elipsoid alloys) and was wondering what the differance was between an inspection 1 an inspection 2 and a oil inspection also what is checked / replaced on all of the above.

Also on a side line are there any other ways or does anyone know of the circuit diagram of the auto roof lowerer from the remote.

cheers in advance

I think (off the top of my head since I was reading this the other day).

Oil

Check basic stuff
Change engine oil
Change oil filter element
Change pollen/carbon air filter for cabin

Inspection I
As above but check some more things (£££ dealer probably looking for brake work)
Renew brake fluid (every 2 years? although I think annually would be more appropriate)

Inspection II

In addition to inspection I.

Change engine air filter - i would do this more often, this can mean the car has done 50k miles on the original filter! mine was quite grubby at 33k £18 from dealer, much cheaper from eurocarparts or german and swedish.

Change spark plugs - standard fit is longlife platinium giving extended service intervals. Iridium tipped plugs are my favourite but these require replacement more often but are claimed to have a better spark and reduced load on the coil packs.

Worth noting:

The fuel filter in the Z4 is supposedly designed for life of the vehicle, I find this questionable - on other vehicles I have seen improvements of engine smoothness and idle after renewing the filter @ ~50k miles. Having cut an old filter open they do collect a lot of dirt!

No mention in the servicing schedule of air conditioning system recharge and dehumidyfication, I would do this every two years to maintain system performance and condition of the compressor and seals.

Gearbox and differential oils seem to never need replacing on a BMW, my nissan 200sx required these every two years.
