What's the catch?

Super cheap low mileage Z4M Coupe for sale on eBay for a shade over £9k and with less than 85k on the clock, it looks very nice but what's the catch? Sorry I'm not techy enough to post the ad . Just curious to know everyone's thoughts on this on?

Posted picture of Advert........I can do that but links are beyond my brain capacity :dizzy: Screenshot_20231119-000941_eBay.jpg

At that price worth a viewing. Under the car and a comprehensive road test. For sure there is a catch.

 what are your thoughts, it seems to goo to be true ?

It’s been hacked after looking through all the listings it screamed Facebook marketplace scam listings. All low priced high end cars and photo locations were definitely not in Gateshead. So I went to the proper website and found their Instagram post saying their eBay has indeed been hacked.

Wow, that's scary stuff, thanks for taking the time to investigate. I didn't know it was that easy. I guess as the saying goes, "if it looks to good to be true, it probably is".

Nowadays that is more like it.

EBay and much more so Facebook Marketplace are absolutely full of scammers. They are getting better at offering cars for just a small amount below market value, as previously they would offer them so cheap people got wise too quick.

I have a mate who keeps nearly getting caught by these type of scams as he is looking for a van. He cannot help himself but be enticed by a 'bargain'. He very, very nearly got scammed by a really good one last week.

Sad that you can't trust anyone anymore, thanks to the proliferation of scammers.

I just bought a car from a guy who, whilst not a scammer, was a liar and a cheat and managed to get a dodgy MOT done on the car I bought. On the face of it the most genuine person. Sadly turned out not to be so, as money was more important than honesty.

Very sorry to hear that. :|

I'm probably being stupid but the ebay advert has the phone number and surely if it was me I'd arrange to view and test drive the car as well as investigating the paperwork offered with the car? So am I correct in thinking that the scammers hope to get someone to just "buy it now" and send funds without even viewing the car?

Deposit more likely, putting time pressure on as in “someone is coming to view at 12, £500 deposit secures it”

That tends to be the scam IMO. Multiple deposits of £500 or so soon adds up to a tidy sum.
