WHAT'S AN 'IS' OFFSET?

Can anyone tell me if ET is the same as IS (see example below)? I have seen some BMW wheels advertised that have offsets descibed differently for front and rear, but although they look otherwise okay for Z4, I'm a bit worried about the fact that is says IS 50 and not ET 50. I've never come accross IS before.
Front 8 J x 18 ET 47 Rear 8.5 J X 18 IS 50

Not ever heard of an offset being described as an 'is' figure.
The example you quote is the standard fitment for 18inch staggered wheels on the zed. ie 8'' et 47 front and 8.5'' et 50 rear so you would have to assume the two are the same unless anyone knows different.
