What software do I need to do a postcode search on Sat Nav?

Hi guys,

I have a 2007 z4 3.0 si with satnav and 2007 CD...

As I'm sure anyone with the BMW sat nav is aware... its rubbish! Apparently BMW refused to pay Royal Mail for the postcode function so you have to start at country level and can't type in the postcode... so I end up not using it at all and using my trusty Garmin sat nav instead.

Somebody told me that if I downloaded the V32 software then I would be able to have the postcode function... so I installed it but it didn't work. It was worth doing because I now have a better spash screen:

...But I am still looking for help getting the postcode thing to work so I can sell me Garmin on ebay and get some cash :ebay:

If anybody has done it or has any help/advice then I'd be happy to hear it!

Hello mate,

DIscussing the usefullness of the Nav has been done to death on here, but I personally love mine !

To do what you require depends on your Map DVD. Pick the Country as UK (which should be kept for next time so you dont have to change it) then in the Town box, type your postcode!

It will only do 5 digit - meaning for example if you were looking for a Birmingham postcode of B1 1AB, it would take "B1 1" at which point the list of road names changes to reflect only those in that area.

7 digit is available as a 3rd party add-in, but it's clumsy as it uses Points of Interest instead and is technically an illegal disk.

If I ever have anywhere I cant find with 5 digit postcodes, quickly entering the longer postcode into Google on my phone will usually give me enough of a Road name to then find it correctly.

Good luck !

Never had a problem with the 5 digit post code and the house number, gets me there every time.

I'm normally navigating to a street, not postcode, so can do a street name for the whole country, which is great for the less common streets or where you cannot be certain which town or district an address is listed under.

Splash screens can be changed real easy in the os simply by substituting an image of the correct size, reburning the disk and loading. xoutpost.com has the software and lots of how to's for our nav system if you want to play around with it.

Ok many thanks for the info guys... I probably didn't give it enough of a chance. Good idea to use your phone if you are stuck for a street name... and I'll have a look at xoutpost now to see what else I can do with it

The post code thing is not unique to BMW. The system in the Audi has the same 5 digit max input.

Can you guess how many digits in a German post code? :)
