What options / Toys on new car?

So following my initial test drive in 20i, I have more or less decided on a z4, just need to decide which one and which options. I have test drives lined up soon for 28i Auto and 35is. I think the 28i M Sport Auto is the one ticking all the boxes at the moment, although I can be tempted with the 35is depends on the test drive and if I think I'll really use the extra power.....

I'd like people opinions on options please.

1. Best interia colour with Deap Sea Blue? Been thinking the beige (is it difficult to clean?) with the fine wood trim, or maybe all black, don't think red will work (anyone seen red and DSB together?). Is extended leather worth it what do you get that you don't as standard? I've also been looking at the pure design balance package but not sure about what the brown will look like in the flesh, some photo make it look a bit "turdy" others it seem nice and dark almost black, does the white sitching get dirty over time and look naff.

2. Suspension, looks like three options, delete M Sport, Keep M Sport, or M Sport + Adaptive. With the last one does this effectively mean you can switch off the M Sport suspension or leave it on or is more going on? Is it worth it? And if you don't have the Adaptive option does sport vs comfort do anything to suspension or is it all engine.

3. Wheels, standard M Sport or something else. Which ones crack and which ones don't?

4. Comfort and Media packages are both going on, with the BMW Pro Speaker system (is this the Carver system?)

5. Options Definately Getting

Seat heating

6. Maybe Options (opinion please)

Internet (as it's only £95)
Adaptive Headlights
High Beam Assist
Steering Wheel Heating
Electric Seats with Memory (does this do mirrors too?)
Lumbar Support (I'm getting old now)
Steering Wheel Heating

7. options not considering unless someone to give me a good reason to bung them on

Remote control
TV
Comfort Access

Is it also safe to assume that the more option you put on the bigger the discount i can push for?

Thanks in advance.
Chris

1. Black interior is boring... everyone has it. Try the Walnut, that looks lovely with DSB and isn't anywhere near as hard to keep clean as the ivory or cream interiors.
2. Adaptive. It makes normal mode more comfortable, while you can dial up to bone shattering should you feel the need to punish your spine.
3. Looks like no 19" wheel is safe, as most styles on here have cracked. If you want a great look 19" is the only risky way to go, but for peace of mine, sacrifice the looks and go 18" (296 crack most it seems, 326 is also cropping up now as crackable too).
4. Good.
5. Agreed.
6. Don't bother with Internet, its a pain to use. Adaptive headlights are ok at best. High Beam Assist, again, OK but I hardly use main beam as it is. Steering Wheel heating, yes, something I wish I had. Electric seats, don't bother. I love mine, but hardly use the controls. Only really of use if more than one driver as each key keeps that drivers seating and mirror position. Lumbar support, again, wish I had that, very hard to find a car with it on (slipped disc). Steering wheel heating again?
7. Remote control? Comfort Access, yes, go for that. TV Don't bother you can only watch it when static and engine not running, you'll never use it.

As for the last bit, discount. Extra's mean diddly squat to discount. If you're buying new you'll get whatever pleases them to give you. If you're buying something built and sat there in the car park, then you'll not get the ideal spec car, but you will likely get even more off it.

I would get (have) PDC front/rear as with roof up view can be restrictive

Dont get get TV under any circumstances I had it in my last Z4 , would have got more fun/use out of setting fire to £600 punds worth of bank notes

PDC is in the comfort pack so yep got them on the list.

Thanks Maniac. re Electric seat there will be 2 drivers. So maybe worth it? Particuarly if it does mirrors as well.

Yes it does both, but at nearly a grand, its a lot of money for a whizzy seat. I have them on mine simply because they came standard on the 35i. They're a cool feature, but I rarely use them as I'm the only one that drives the Z. The other half daren't get in it never mind drive it. The slightest scratch will result in divorce.

You maybe correct. 99% it's be me driver and only occasionally the Mrs. She has her own car! So maybe I should just live with a manual adjustment when needed.... Can you get lumbar support (as it's electric) without electrice seats?

Lumbar without electric seats is yes.

Get whatever options you fancy and can afford, cos retrofitting is sometimes impossible, or at least, difficult.

TV - nice, but unless you spend long time in car waiting around, then pointless.

So that put me here 28i MSport

1. Deap Sea Blue with Walnut Leather (Should I go extended?)

2. Suspension, M Sport Adaptive

3. Wheels, 18" 325, (Standard M Sport)

4. Comfort and Media packages are both going on, with the BMW Pro Speaker system (is this the Carver system?)

5. Options Definately Getting

Seat heating
Steering Wheel Heating
Lumbar Support

6. Maybe Options (opinion please)

Comfort Access (Still not convinced why I want this)
Electric Seats with Memory (still possible as two driver maybe not though)

7. options not considering unless someone to give me a good reason to bung them on

Remote control
TV
Internet
Adaptive Headlights
High Beam Assist

Sounds like a plan to me. As for extended. Go find a car with it in and find out. Its an option you don't know until you see/feel it. I have it and its one of the things that makes the car extra special. Hardly any plastic in sight.. other than that ugly stuff around the windscreen. All dash is leather, top middle bottom, all doors, seats, centre tunnel, visors, you name it. Its quite a lot more for it, but it makes it a very special place to be. Without it most surfaces are black plastic/rubber, which isn't so bad, but isn't a patch on the leather.

I don't know how to cross ref a thread on here so scroll down the threads in the E89 discussion until you find DSB + Walnut and you'll see my photos of my car that colour.

I am quite chuffed that Maniac has endorsed this choice. He would not say the same about my 20i choice.

I have heated seats (a must), no heated wheel (slightly regret but you can adjust the fans to heat your hands or try gloves), electric seats (because my wife drives the car a lot too and I found the manual seats a bore to adjust in the showroom but if only 1 driver no need. I do like that if wife has been out in the car everything re-adjusts when I unlook with my key, except annoyingly, the rear view mirror which I have to do myself).

I use the electric folding mirrors A LOT in London and the parking sensors in London again a good thing.

Nav good (buying a new car in 2013 without nav was not an option for me), I got DAB which I like although not sure if quality any better still can't believe you have to pay extra for these items in 2013.

We also have the extended lighting as part of the comfort package which is fun and ensures you don't step into dog mess when you open the car door, but slightly OTT.

We don't have extended leather, if you go for wood trim you don't need (see my pics...).

Don't have lumbar support so don't miss it. Didn't try it.

Comfort access I reckon is not needed - do you want your car unlocking on its own. I guess I don't miss because I don't have.

We only have the standard sound which is ok but not amazing. I would maybe upgrade as I think you are going to.

I got the through loading storage thing because the friend I play golf with has no car. Have not actually used or tried it yet though (we are fair weather golfers) so he owes me £175 for that.

I got whatever you need to plug in iphone and get the music and album covers etc - I think that you get that with the i drive in any case.

Here you go; http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=47817

I've seen this in the flesh and it looks better than the photos, and the photos don't look bad. I just feel all black inside is very very dark so not my taste. I love the white leather in my car but it does require cleaning more than other colours. The beige I'm not a fan of as it contrasts too much on the dash. Red is nice inside black, silver, grey and white cars. DSB with Walnut goes well IMHO.

As for your 20i choice ewwimbledon, we all have different needs, and different pockets. For me, I love to drive, therefore power is a must and I tried the 20i when it came out due to the offers on it, but just couldn't part with the 35i, the sound, if nothing else, is epic.

That DSB plus Walnut and wood trim looks great. I'd have to get extended leather though otherwise there would be too very nearly identical cars very near each other in south west London  assuming that is you user name does give away your location....

Next question, to de-badge or not de-badge..... Also with a de-badge is it rear and side or just rear?

Yes god forbid if you go for the lowly slowly 2.0 with boring standard M Sport alloys :roll

Whatever you do don't fit the mudflaps or go for recession white and you will be just fine

Tim. :poke:

If you are in SW london and want to see the dsb and walnut in the flesh let me know. If not look forward to racing you at the lights - we'll see if the lowly slowly 20i can hold its own!

ps we also have cruise control which seems pointless in the UK but it came with the comfort package I think. Used it for 5 mins on the A3 once.

Remote control is for remotely opening of gates and garage doors if they are compatible.

High beam assist is doing my head in as they don't dip half the time until people flash you. They also don't work when you are going slow, like on our one mile very dark lane home.

Heated steering wheel is understated and brilliant.

Electric seats are standard on 35is.

Bugger... I'm defiantly going to look like the poor relation
Adaptive headlights are brilliant, quite literally... Have them on my F11 along with high beam assist, which I also find brilliant. May be the lower E89 screen doesn't register the oncoming cars soon enough? I've ordered it anyhow. I also got the same % discount off the factory extras as well as the car.
