I've wasted over an hour on a few BMW Mini forums and got nowhere! Nothing found on searches, or no search unless you sign up, or no idea! :headbang:

So I'm hoping the more clued up membership on here can help me out.

My sister has an 06 plate R53 Cooper and it needs some oil - I know BMW always recommended Castrol Edge (until their recent change of allegiance to Shell), but does hers need LL01 or LL04?

Many thanks.

5w-30 or 0w-30 OP

BMW LL-04 OR LL-01 from memory I always used LL-04 5w-30 and never had an issue

Whatever oil you get, make sure you get a lot of it.
If its anything like my old one, and lots of others, they use half a litre upwards every thousand miles.

We've covered 12k miles in our cooper in 18months & it's not used a drop-it does 50mpg on a run as well.
I know the forced induction S version can burn a bit of oil but it sounds like you had a bad Cooper :(

It was an R56 with the Peugeot engine. Search around, I was told by a Mini dealership that 1 litre per thousand miles was normal :o
I was kinda glad ours was only half that.

Is it the Peugeot engine ?

No, that was the R56 which is why I put R53 in the header!

And seeing as the engine in the R56 was built in a BMW factory in Hams Hall in the Midlands I don't think it is a Peugeot engine in any way, shape or form - more of a BMW engine supplied to Peugeot!

[post]1380410[/post] Just ring local BMW/MINI garage and ask the service team they may recommend based on age/mileage.

Thanks, I will do in the morning.
