Are they not both less than half ?Babw said:I'm using Millers Nanodrive Ester oil, engine felt and sounded noticeably smoother when I changed from Castrol (5 years ago).

Why is half more important? Why not a quarter or a tenth?

Personally I wouldn't want to run a thinner oil as my engine gets a fairly hard time, I just do my best to warm it up properly. If I wasn't tracking and living somewhere where it gets cold I would consider a 5w50 or something for sure.
The only oil I would perhaps avoid with the S54 is Millers Nanodrive. There are a number of anecdotal reports on M3 forums of it contributing to accelerated cam lobe wear. Any truth in it? I've no idea, but I don't see any reason to change from the original spec oil myself having never had any problems with it.

Were you parked on a slope after your break?Nanu said:Just back from a drive today and when I started her up from a brief pit stop, a message on the idrive warned that the oil level was at minimum and I needed to top up with 1 litre of oil. On the way home bought said litre and just out of curiosity and when home I checked the oil level and the idrive said it was between half and maximum?
Strange but at least I have a spare litre of oil when I really do need it.
No, not exactly flat but not sufficient to alter any readings that much. Have done another test today just to be sure and still reads as 3/4 full so reassured.Nick W said:Were you parked on a slope after your break?Nanu said:Just back from a drive today and when I started her up from a brief pit stop, a message on the idrive warned that the oil level was at minimum and I needed to top up with 1 litre of oil.
