What next???

Ok I have been thinking this for some time now:
With current supercars now getting to 60 in 4 seconds or less and pretty much all hitting 200mph where will they go next? When Ferrari brings out a replacement for the F430 how much faster can it realistically be? Will people want to spend 150k for another 0.2 shaved off the 0-60time? And there are also super-saloons now which are very near the pace of supercars, there are Vectras not far off the pace of Z4M's and now nissan has introduced the GTR which basically destroys cars 2 and 3 times the cost.
Bit of a random post I know but it just has me wondering how much longer car companys can keep improving their cars, making them faster. How long before a Ferrari cant get away from an Astra??

Actually I think this is a great thread Jas! I always say no matter how fast and tight the car, there's only so fast you can take a curve. I have thought this same question many times, but I suppose the second manufacturers quit trying to improve over their competitors, they will start to sink. It's all about who's the fastest, tightest, most bhp, newest design etc etc. while logic gets thrown to the wind.
Yet I'm the first to admit that if I had the dough, I'd be the first in line! :D - go figure :?
The roads are getting more and more crowded as people proliferate, creating more road hazards, congestion, road-rage and accidents. Which in turn pressures public safety officials to more closely monitor drivers' actions and speeds. So really, who needs more then 80mph? No one, but my brain needs it  ! The faster and twistier, the funner as far as I'm concerned. Even so, there's only much metal and a motor can take.

Have to agree with fire-n-ice. There are more and more laws. Just do not understand logically why I am thinking of getting a Carrera 4S - makes no sense.

On top of that I am at best an average driver & do not have the skills required to get the most out of the Z4M let alone a more powerful car....

I guess it is what people aspire to,, I know the likes of Vauxhall etc are getting faster, but there is still the problem with that badge, the VX220 was testimony to that, this is where prestige comes in, I wonder why the like of Vauxhall, Ford etc bother, they could build a Ferrari equivilent of th F430, but it wouldnt sell,

And you are right about wanting to go faster, when my average speed according to my comp is 32.8 mph

With petrol approaching 10 quid/gallon (UK) and now a gallon in the US is over $3.00, I believe that will influence future guzzler purchases. It will for me anyway.

I hate paying high taxes and hate contributing to the obscene profits the oil companies are making even more.

enfield, you are absolutely right! It's a lot like owning a true off road vehicle. Most people don't get the most out of their vehicles.

But I still like mine! :)
