What makes you respond......

Hey fellow Forum members - what makes you respond to a post. I ask that question as I have just opened a thread from a new Forum member introducing himself and noticed his post had been viewed 16 times without a response. Now some of the viewers may not have been Forum members BUT I bet that more than half were. So what's that all about - are we just a miserable bunch or can't people be bothered to respond or post until they actually want something. Get a grip and just take a few seconds to welcome new members.

I thought I better respond as I had viewed this post :D

In general terms, I think that if a new member is introduced as :

"Hi, I am Anne" - you can expect the dogs-on-heat to reply within 2 seconds and the newcomer has 20 pages of welcome within 2 hours.

I tend to respond if the first post of the member has got some effort put into it. If a post contains "I am new and looking for a Z4, all tips welcome - bye" then I don't respond really.

If someone on the other hand tells the story of what has been going and what they are trying to get out of it, then I will respond.

In summary, it all depends on the posting style I would say.

Sounds like a Mr Bean approach ...

"Oh look, another viewing of my post" :)

Couldn't think what to say in way of a response just for postings sake but thought I better in case the Post police get on my case, And apparently some people (you know who you are :poke: ) think I post to much :P

Sometimes depends on whether I'm actually logged in or or just browsing as a guest, but generally it's got to be something that peaks my interest, I admit to being guily as to not welcoming new members I don't tend to look at that section.

Same as pvr really. If there is an effort in their post, story, pictures etc. then i make an effort to reply. Especially if it is someone local to me.

sometimes its not possible to respond, i find anything technical and i its over my head so i can't respond

I usually love to get involved in a good techie thread or (try to) help people out

I welcome people where i can but dont have much time too!! sorry!

I read the posts but dont often respond, mainly for two reasons if its a question,

A - someone has already answered it

B - I dont know the answer

If its a more geneal topic, it really depends on what the subject matter is

Sometimes I just like to read the posts, if I have something positive to add I do (some might disagree that its positive but hey). I think it is right to welcome new members but like most, like to see some enthusiasm from a first post and possibly some pictures too, I mean if I can do it....
