i am a 22 year old guy who recently bought a 2006 z4 3.0i and most people like it but there is a bunch that say things like "the z4 is a girl car"... honestly i dont think it is.. i love it.. what does everyone think about these comments??

Indeed its a girls car, cuz i've lost count of how many girls i've given rides to with it...
I think its just sounds like jealousy.
what kind of car? its a ladies man kind of car

It cant be a girl car, It says right in the manual that you dont have to wait for it to warm up. But I cant turn my Z4 over to check. The VW Bug has a flower vase standard OEM. Thats a girl car.

For a 2-seat convertible sports car I don't think you can get more manly than a Z4.

These are obviously bondafide girls' cars: Miata, Z3, SLK, Audi TT

The S2000 is borderline girls' car. It's very fun to drive and I've complimented it more than enough in the past. But it looks like a manlier version of Miata - hence why it's a borderline girls' car.

Boxster - good car, just not a 911.

SL - not a chick's car. It's a wives' car.

Solstice, Sky - LOL.

I would ask anyone who said it was a girls car what they drive. What does it have under the bonnet??? If it's not a 3 litre and it can't hit 60 MPH in under 6 seconds then politely suggest they get back to their boring mundane Euro/rice box and pick up the kids from dance class. :)

I would ask is it a roadster or a coupe ;-)

I've always thought of convertibles as girls cars! Or perhaps I should rephrase that - I've always thought that only girls could pull off driving convertibles...

Seriously though, I've several times had the Z4 described as driving a big penis, given its massive huge front bonnet. If that's not saying its an OK car for a bloke then I don't know what is.

"It's a man's car. It feels like a proper roadster. You sit low-down and right at the back - almost over the rear wheels with a big bonnet stretching ahead of you... and I don't care what you want to read into that - feels great."

I think they call it 'compensating'

Many people assume it's a girls car because it has 2 seats and a convertible roof. And girly girls/hairdressers/posers are very attracted to this kind of car, therefore everyone who drives a convertible is tarred with the same brush as these TT driving peroxide haired, orange fake tanned bimbo's (not saying they all look like this btw  )
I have to say though that i think the Z4 is the manliest of roadsters. And i only ever see men driving them!
And i'm not a girly girl or a hairdresser or a poser so that's why i went for the Coupe :P

Sorry for going off topic here, but when you state that "you don't have to wait for the car to warm up"... what exactly do you mean... I have my brother a lift the other day and he told me to wait until the car warms up before driving it the way i was... i only hit 3500rpm :)

I always wait for the car to warm up fully before i go over this mark but he insisted that i shouldn't even be taking to 3500rpm... and now you have me thinking that i don't have to wait for the car to warm up at all OR am i misunderstanding your post ;)

Wait for the temp gauge to go past the blue marker before getting excited. Says so in the manual

Don't you have the red lights on the rev counter that show you where the safe/recommended limit is for different temps?

Mine is at 4000rpm (or so) for a minute or two, then goes to 5000rpm, then 6000rpm and finally goes to the normal 8000rpm in red with 7500rpm in orange.

Think that must be an M only thing...

The concept of "men's" or "girl's" cars always amuses me. Surely it's in the eye of the beholder, by which I mean the purchaser will be the judge of whether it's a suitable car for his or herself. I can honestly say I've never considered myself more or less masculine as a result of driving a car, be it my Z4, my old Smart Roadster, a Boxster or an SUV.

I think there's a lot of credibility to the envy theory; I've never had a 911 owner tell me it's a girls car. Well, actually nobody has ever told me that, but I expect I wouldn't hear it from someone with a comparable or superior vehicle.

As an aside, and I'm not wanting to ruffle feathers, but another thing that vexes me is derision of the Boxster on the basis that either it's a poor man's Porsche or else it's not a 911. In both cases partially true but totally meaningless (although the former should be ammended from "poor man" to "poor Porsche owner"; I haven't seen many Boxsters outside the Job Centre Plus). There's always a bigger fish; a Z4 is a poor man's E93 M3 Cab, an SL63 is a poor man's SLR, moreover an SLR is a poor man's CLK-GTR, and my personal favourite: a 911 is a poor man's Carrera GT. Yes, there are better cars than a Boxster, but that doesn't make it a bad one. If it did, what would that make our Z4's? Due credit to the Porsche marketing department though; they seem to have managed to build the 911 into such a status symbol that people often consider a 986S as grossly inferior to the comparably capable 996 3.4.

Is that because ///M drivers are impatient and need the warning (I've always treated my M5s to the slow warm up and kept it below 3500rpm until warm), or is it because BMW think we're stupid and wouldn't heed a one-off warning from the dealer?

Actually, has anyone gone into/through the red area when it's been below the normal limiter? Does it in fact stop you going into the lower reds? Anyone want to try it and tell me (on their own cars of course).

No. it's because the M has an old cast iron engine and the 3.0si has a modern magnesium/alloy unit! :P :fuelfire:

No, it's not a girl's car. It IS however, a WOMAN's car. Several of us women appreciate a good sports car.

Being 22, though, you're letting too many people influence you--do YOU enjoy the car and driving it? Well, then, tell them to go @#$% off.

As Tupac said:

Jealously and envy coming from my enemy...

A 911 driver :driving: would not say that to you but a VW Golf 1.4l driver :driving: would! Why... because they are jealous

I bet if you offered to swap your car with the "persons" who are saying this to you... they would snap your hand off...
