What is involved in fitting an Intravee?

Hey guys,

This weekend i managed to remove the boot carpet etc to access the Bluetooth Module for the BT Code without too much bother.

I will soon be buying an Intravee & Alpine iPod connector jobbie (for use with proff sat nav)

What is involved in removing the CD Changer & fitting the Intravee in a Z4 Roadster? I've seen the videos on their website but i have a feeling it will not be as easy on our cars.

Is it fitted from Inside the car or from the boot? (or both :? )

Any help, advice or pics would be great :)

Thanks

Nick

Do you currently have a cd changer?
Some people take half the interior apart to get the cd changer out and replace it with the intravee, others don't have the cd changer or leave it in and just access the cables from the boot. I'm sure someone will be able to give you a better guide.

I recently bought an Intravee and Alpine connector "jobbie" second hand from here, but having thought about it, I may sell it on rather than go through the hassle of removing my jammed cd changer. I just won't use it enough and the aux in thats in my cars glovebox is adequate enough for me. It does appear to be a nice bit of kit but I listen to the radio most of the time and listen to enough of my ipod music collection whilst at work.

I spent a lot of time procratinating over fitting my Intravee. Read posts about how it isnt a DIY job and nearly didn't bother. Then when I came to it it was just a case of whipping the boot firewall carpet out, plugging the Intravee into the CD changer connection and the rest of the wires into the obvious sockets.

If you have a CD changer I guess there would be more trouble involved in removing that but there is no reason why you couldn't just leave it in.

I'm sure pvr did a write up for this, but I can't find it.

Anyway, for me, I removed the boot carpet, fitted the Alpine via velcro on the rear wall, and the intravee was fitted in the centre console. But to get to that, I had to remove the centre console itself, and took out the bottom 'shelf' behind the compartment, as you need to cut two holes in this. That was so I had full easy access to the Intravee & ipod, rather than removing the boot carpet each time.

It was a pain, but I'm sure could be done a lot quicker than I managed it. But its worth it also, as the Intravee is excellent kit.

To be honest, the install can be as easy or as complex as you like... For a quick job, just whip the carpet up, locate the two plugs in your CD changer and plug them into the intravee. Plug the KCA into that and run the iPod cable through any gap in the plastic (I poked it between the CD changer and the plastic surround. It takes some pushing, but there is give in the plastic so it will go) so that it comes out in the cubby box. I then velcro'd the two units to the carpet in the boot(I knew I'd want to get at them easily later) and I was done.

I didn't have to remove anything. Just lifted the back piece of carpet in the boot and skinned my knuckles a few times running the iPod cable.

I have now bought an Intravee & Alpine unit.

Im not sure whether to remove my CD changer or not :? I plan on fitting a DVD player in the future so i may just take it out then....

If i do keep the CD Changer in situe, where can i put the Intravee & Ipod? As in the pic above; your Intravee is obviously where my Changer is at the moment :?

Also, i need to change the settings on the Intravee using a laptop to make it work with my Sat Nav. Where do you download the software? The Intravee site seems very poor

Well, you need the CD changer cables to connect to the Intravee so not a lot of point in leaving it there.

Register yourself as a customer on the Intravee website (http://www.intravention.co.uk/forum/index.php) and you will get access to everything you need.

Support on there is excellent and updating the software is so easy (there is a separate section for he software, including the download tool etc). You do need a Serial to USB cable as I expect that your laptop does not have a serial port.

If you bought the Intravee new, you would not need to update the software straight away though.

Thanks for that!

I am buying the Intravee from a member on here and i am told that it is set up for a non-nav car, but you're right, i have no serial port on this laptop!

I think i might have one on my old old one though :)

The only reason i'm thinking of leaving the changer in there is because it looks like an absolutley massive job to take it out

If you put it in the place where I put it, the amount of effort is identical.

There is a radio push sequence in the manual where you can change it from non-nav to nav (setting 6 I think).

You can download the manuals from the site as well. Just register there and Richard will help you there with access to the relevant customer areas.

I bought the cable for £6 from play.com (usb to serial).
