What is best for the car

Hi, i am working away from home for the next 4 weeks, which means that my Z4 will be left parked up for the 4 weeks. Should i get my brother to pop over and bring it for a quick spin at the weekends to keep the car active etc OR should the car be perfectly fine sitting there for 4 weeks. What is best for the car and if i should just leave it sitting there, would you advise on doing anything to the car (leave alarm off etc - i know i sound like i am leaving it sitting there for a year but i just want to do what's best for the car) thanks in advance

It is in terms of storing a car next to nothing. If in a secure environment I tend to not set the alarm as they have a tendency to flatten batteries over a very short time. Evidence any airport car park where dozens have flat batteries. I also prefer to leave the handbrake off as in damper weather (Ireland!!) the pads can stick to the rotors

In terms of starting it up this can be counter productive in that the car needs a good run to warm up and replace the current taken to start it and secondly cold starts just wash the bores with petrol each time increasing wear.

Oh I'd love to be able to leave mine with the handbrake off - but my drive is on a slope :o Don't fancy a dented garage door :(

The handbrake on our zed's is pitiful. I would use wheel chocks.

mine holds fine...

The car is fine, but what about you? Won't you miss driving the beauty? I think for your mental health, you should drive your Z at least once per week. :D

Actually my handbrake is very good, however relying on a handbrake to hold a car on a slope while parked is extremely dangerous.

It's well known for rotors to cool allowing the level of grip to reduce and cars to roll away. The gearbox engaged in Park or on manuals opposite direction to the slope is way safer. Chocks of course for steep slopes and longer periods.

Only potential prob is a flat battery if you leave the alarm on. If you have a battery conditioner leave that connected if you can. Leave the handbrake off if you can but otherwise just expect a little bit of stickyness when you first drive the car. Other than that send me the keys and I'll look after it for you - now where's that booking form for Goodwood?

I leave mine in garage for 3 1/2 months every year when I go south for the winter. Brake off but thats it. No problems yet. Fires up and runs great everytime when I get home. Do put fresh oil in before I leave.

That's more like it. IMO a lot of the responses here are not necessary for only 4 weeks away.

I was laid up for 6 weeks due to some surgery, and when I finally was able to want to drive, my 06 ZED would not start. I had to jump start it. I took it to the dealer and they did a recharge on the battery under warranty.

Thanks to IMZ4N, that weekend we went for a great drive that wore MY batteries out (not the cars!)
