What do you use to wax?

I've been using a dry fine damp microfibre cloth - is there anything better recommended and/or should it be dry?

I use the applicator that comes with ZAINO - I use microfibre towels to remove the wax - by the very nature of "waxing" the cloth or applicator becomes damp from the moisture in the product - I believe it applies easier when damp.

Apply the wax with these http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/accessories/meguiars-foam-applicators-pkg/2/prod_177.html also available in Halfords

Buff off with these http://www.seriousperformance.co.uk/Products,81,toView_555.html

I apply the wax with Meguiars foam applicators and buff off with a microfibre

I have an electric buffer, haven’t used it on this car yet and was debating whether to or not.

I’ve tried waxing by hand and because it’s black it’s hard to get ALL of the polish off, especially when the sun hits it. Any of u guys use an electric? And what’s the best polish to use with them?

Just started using http://www.autogeek.net/pinnacleprod.html after years with Meguire's. The stuff is GREAT!!!

I use Autoglym. Their £40 wax is very good but not the easiest to apply. I have reverted back to using their Super resin polish as it helps hide some of the swirl marks. I use an electric buffer (Halfords) which brings the finish up a treat but when I eventually have the paint work detailed I'll probably stop using it.

After years with Zaino I found that a car with red or black (dark e.g.) not many products beat Wolfgang Concours wax and associated products.

I use my PC to buff, the finish is much better than by hand, been using P21S but going to try some

Applying wax with a PC and the correct foam pad is recommended because it assists in putting on a thin consistent layer. It is also recommended that the coat be remove by hand with light strokes preferably with a microfiber towel. One doesn't want to remove too much of what was just applied.

Glad you said this as i have thought about using some sort of buffer after waxing especially after spending over 9 hours on the car yesterday all by hand and still jobs to do :( my arm was killing me when i got up but still managed to pop another layer on first thing.

She did look stunning parked in the sun today at Brands Hatch made it all worth while :D

If you don't know how to get this done, get with and watch (YouTube has videos) someone that does and learn. Don't cock up your Z4's finish because you think you know it all. I directing this at any novice.

Suggested Steps:

wash
clay bar
wash
(depending on the state of the clearcoat/paint, one needs to start with an abrasive compound/polish or medium abrasive polish)
use a PC...do not use a rotary unless you know what you are doing or have experience. It takes a nanosecond to burn through to metal with a rotary if not used correctly. This takes experience, right product, proper conditions and skill. USE A Porter Cable with the correct pad for great results. You may use 4-6 different pads for the complete detail.
Medium or light abrasive polish
very light polish
glaze
wax
sealant.

If you use a synthetic product (Zaino e.g.) this will last you for 4-6 months then all you need to do is light polish/glaze/wax and a detailing spray.
If you use a natural wax then once every month or 2 months is good plus detailing spray.

Wax and sealant other way round.
Some people use spray waxes or sealants as a top up between applying other paste wax / sealant layers eg Duragloss Aquawax or Zaino Z8.

Zaino Z8 is not a sealant. Zaino CS is.

Yes it is!
Its a man made product and the actual product states "spray seal", its not a natural wax product and "tops up" Z2 etc protection so its not a quick detailer (Z6) which offers no protection.

I find these ... http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/blackfire-ultimate-lsp-applicator-pad-protect.html ... are excellent for applying a thin / even layer of wax.

Use one with Blackfire Midnight Sun (http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/blackfire-midnight-sun-ivory-carnauba-paste-wax-protect.html) on my sapphire black Z4C 8)
