What do you really like about your Z4?

Really happy to find a lively forum to join.

Picking up my new Z4Coupe on Monday (Oct 1), so haven't actually driven or lived with one yet.

One thing got me worried was reading the Problems section - rattles, groans, corrosion, warranty issues - the list seemed endless and depressing - got me worried about my choice of car - so then looked for the "What I love about my Z4" section to start focusing on the good points - but couldn't find one.

It would help to hear some of the things that inspire you about your Z4. I sense that some people rally love the car. I would like to hear your views on this so I can collect my new car feeling excited.

What is it about your Z4 that you really like?

Dave

You're going to find that with just about any car. I'm sure our list is so long because one of the main things we concern ourselves with is our garage baby. It's a great car and you're going to love every minute of it. I love that I have had the car now for about 3 months and am still finding out little things that I didn't know before I got the car - like today I found out the screwdriver which I thought was only a flat head is actually a phillips head too and also I learned today that when i'm on my way with the nav guiding and I need to turn within so many feet it shows up on the little screen by the gauges. Not to mention the fact that 99% percent of the time i'm on the road I know that I have the sweetest car for miles. There was that time on I-85 when I saw the guy in the 599 GTB Fiorano, god bless him, but that's another topic.

Thanks for the encouraging replies. I particularly like the details Veruca.

I do like your comment "on the road I know that I have the sweetest car for miles" - it reminds me of why I bought the Z4C - which I'd forgotten.

DaveZ4C, welcome. Mine's gone now, but the best thing has to be those looks :sweetheart:

And even if things do go wrong, in my experience the customer service and warranty were 100%, so you've nothing to worry about. Good luck tomorrow. What's the spec you're getting?

curvey country/hilly roads. the car handles amazing....add the music and the top down and life doesn't get any better.

You've inspired me to go look for some curvy country hilly roads as soon as possible

So, how do you like it?

Collected the car on Monday

What I like:

1. Awesome acceleration - even though I'm still running it in. Can't imagine what it'll be like above 4500 revs!! Overtakes are amazingly easy
2. Looks are incredible - quality inside and out. Sweetest thing on the road - looks great (cool) but not flashy (uncool)
3. Great to spend time in - when I'm not driving it, I want to be driving it.

On the other hand:

1. Steering seems too sensitive - the car sticks to the road very well but i find I'm sometimes afraid that I'm going to steer it into a hedge on bumpy twisty roads. I tried Sport mode, which helped a little but not enough to help me feel confident.
2. The computer seems odd - it'll say, for example, 31.8mph when I'm travelling at 70mph (even for 30 minutes)- what's going on here? Do I have to keep re-setting it every time I want to check mph or mpg?

Looking forward to post-running in when I can try the third gear acceleration mentioned by WLH and will hopefully have sorted out the steering senstivity thing.

Does anyone have any advice on the steering thing? Am I missing something?

The computer keeps track of average speed and mpg since last reset. If you want instant readings, you will have to reset the indicator.

Cheers!

That makes sense. I'll have a look at it in action tomorrow.

Thanks Ovrkll

sport mode only makes MORE hypersensitive to small changes in steering. so if you're finding it very touchy to steer, be sure to have the sport not pushed on. it is a sports car and is made to be hypersensitive in steering. it just means you have to not allow for play in the steering, when you touch it at all, off it goes in that direction. Just my take on things.....its a car that demands your full attention when driving.

enjoy, its a wonderful car.

Minor, but I dont like where the window switches are, PITA would be better in the centre link on E46's

Sport Mode doesn't affect steering sensitivity significantly JUST IN MY OPINION; throttle sensitivity is more significant for me. You'll get used to the steering. It's like anything else: do it enough and it'll become 2nd nature. Enjoy your new Z and take your time getting to know it - no worries and no rush

You'll get used to the steering. It is a bit different. But once you get used to it you'll learn to love it! If you have runflats you may experience some tramlining too - maybe not - I think they fixed that prob on the new models.

My favorite thing about the Zed is this Forum! (sp3ctre - you rock!)

mmm, not sure what's happening in your car Rosie but (I'm sure someone round here will correct me if I am wrong) if the sports buttun is working properly the idea is it stiffens up the steering, it certainly seems to on mine... not enough, but a little bit. If yours is working the opposite way round I'd get it looked at.
