So I went to a store that sells wheels here in Norway. I wanted to do some window shopping, see what was out there.

Anyway, I get to the store, and they have 1 set of 19'' wheels left, just the ones I was looking for. I also ask the guy about run-flats, and he tells me that he has never sold a single set of run-flats. Basically everyone changes to regular tyres. He tells me that run-flats have a tendecy to "get stuck" in the worn out tracks on the roads (unsure what the english word for this is). That is when it clicks for me. I have been feeling a strong "jank" in the steering wheel as I change lanes, as the car settles into these worn out tracks. According to him this is due to the FRFT's.
So suddenly I have a logical reason for getting new wheels. :D

The result is that I leave the store, having bought a complete set of new wheels. This was so unplanned, so now I am left thinking: what did I do??? :?
However, the difference between my 17'' RFT's and these new 19s is like night and day. It feels like a completly new car. No sudden janks in the steering wheel. I feel like I have so much more control!

I think what you call 'jank' is what we would term 'tramlining' ie following ruts etc in the road....

standard OEM bridgestone run-flats are terrible for this. Michelin ZP tyres are MUCH better (ie none)...

oh and your new wheels look great :thumbsup:
 
Wheels look nice just need to sort the suspension and she will look very nice :thumbsup:

Tramlining is common in wide low profile tyres especially on stiff springs my Calibra in avatar was a nightmare after i lowered the car and popped some 17s so i find the Z fine even on RFT.
 
those wheels are really nice, :thumbsup: they are what I would like to get for my car eventually, are they oringal BMW wheels?

I see your point about wide low profile tyres. But now I have 225/35/R19 front and 265/30/R19 rear. These are still sooooo much better than the 17'' RFTs that I changed from. I am glad I made the change. :D

Unfortunately they are not BMW OEMs. I had a pair of OEMs lined up, but since they are from an M3, the offset was completely wrong. The result would be that the rear wheels would stick out too far. :thumbsdown:


Glad you all liked the wheels. I love them. Everytime I see the car now I get a huge grin on my face. :D
 
Z4_in_Norway, I notice you have a new Z, am I correct? :D Your old one had nice BBS rims. Make sure you lower it thoug seems a little too high for a sports car... :)
