What can you replace a Z4 with?

Funny you should mention that. I was talking to someone on Saturday and mentioned that I could easily fit a child in the boot and they'd right there between the front seats....with their own play area at the back.

And yes, we are definitely talking just one child. One. 1.

Seems like the 2 car options is the most popular. I just don't know if it will be cos effective. And also will I ever have the time to enjoy a two seater? Whereas (as someone mentioned earlier) if I have a fast four door at least I might enjoy the day to day driving.

Some interesting suggestions there. Although realistically for me only one would work - the 330 M Sport. I love the alpha but have known two people who owned a Brera from new and had lots of problems (mostly electronics).

I would suggest a 6 series from your list. Not many 2-door coupe will fit 3 adults in the back anyway.
 
Most of the scare stories are probably just that, my mate and his lass had a celica as their only car right until their 2nd child at which point they decided to get something more practical and swapped the celica for a clio cup.

Just get what you want and make it work, nothing is going to be perfect and life is full of compromises.

If it was me I would be going down the cheap 2nd car route and get a fiesta ST 500 but then there is a dark and lurking boy racer element to my personality.

Hot hatches are fun and practical if its got to be one car:
Focus RS
Focus ST
Corsa VXR would be my pick of those.

Actually thats what I would do now take your 14k, 8-9k on a hot hatch and the rest on a fast bike for get away weekend blasts to come back to your senses after being covered in vomit and turd.
 
I've been thinking about what car to get next too, with a baby probably coming in 1-2 years...

I keep looking at E39 M5's, but they might be too old and could be costly to maintain without warranty.
The only other car that keeps catching my eye are Passat CC's, which might be out of your price range still.

I also like unique cars... so I wouldn't want just another normal 3-series, plus my cousin has one and they seem very.. boring. My brother got a C-Class when his baby came, so I wouldn't want the same as him.

We don't have X1's here in Canada yet... but that might be an option.

My wife has a Nissan Sentra now, but we could save a lot by eliminating the 2nd car's insurance, parking, gas, maintenance etc... roughly $4500 a year.

Yeah, these are the same worries I have about bying a second car. I think the posts on here are convincing me not to go down the 2 door coupe route. I'm so tempted by the Porche Cayenne but would be quite screwed if I get landed with a huge repair. Same goes for the CL as well.

My previous car was a 54 plate Celica....it was a great car. Incredibly scary to drive in the wet...almost no traction. But lovely engine that revved to 8000rpm and a gearbox which I think was even better than the Z4!

I'm going to put this on hold. I really can't decide what to get. Yesterday I was looking at Audi Q7's and A6/A8's. All are within my budget and especially the cars are quite cheap..even the mighty 4.2 litre TFSI models. But the concerns as the Cayenne applies to these as well. :(
