How can you be sure the work has been done? Such things as "coolant flush" could just be glossed over and not performed, I mean, how could you tell?

Its the same with any work really. Go to someone you can trust or watch doing it perhaps.

My local Aston Martin dealership has a glass wall between the coffee shop and the garage so you can watch the car being serviced. They also video the work being done and send you it or give you a link to dial into live. As you would expect though it all costs. Very impressive though

So the selling dealer have paid my local dealer to do the brakes that they screwed up, so I've booked it in for next Thursday for the breaks, the full service and a couple other things.

Asked about changing the coolant...they said it is meant to last the life of the car...was that true in 2011? However, to change it would be £130! Said no to that!

If you are based in London & SE, go to Munich Legends for the coolant flush, it’s roughly £30.

I'm in North Devon. There is a specialist BMW indy about 50 miles away, so might be worth asking them. Going to get BMW to do the other things, but for a one off it might be worth it.
