What better 18" tyres not RFT

Hi everyone

I want rid of my RFTs ASAP - they're noisy and the ride must be able to be made better than it is right now!!

What does everyone think to what's on offer right now then?

I am fancying Dunlop sportmaxx rt - they have a really low CE tested DB rating (67db!) but I can't really find anyone who is running them on a Z4 e85/86.

Anyone out there with them?

Other than that - what tyres are best to improve ride and noise levels in the car? I want to stop the bouncing and tram lining and ideally the incredibly hard ride!

Thanks

Are you on Bridgestone at the moment?

I went to Pirelli PZero rft and found them miles better than the Bridgestone.

Yep, pontenza RFTs. Fronts on about 4-5mm, rears on about 2-3mm

Have never been in a z4 other than mine (or one with the same tyres) so have no idea what kind of improvement is possible with tyres alone.

Hey had dunlop sport maxx on my last car, mk2 fabia vrs and wasnt impressed. I would go with vredestein ultrac sessanta or uniroyal rain sport 3s

I have Uniroyal rainsports on my 535, and these are the noisiest tyres I have ever come across. Recently had an oil service, and the mechanic instantly told me my wheel bearings were gone. He checked them and realised it was the tyres (which is what I'd told him). Awful. But this is probably very model-specific.

My Z is running Toyo T1-sports and I'm very pleased with them.

I know this gets raised a lot but it's a big spend and folk want the benefit of forum members experience

I had P-Zeros on my last Zed and couldn't fault them , good grip wet n dry and lasted well - prices vary a lot so be careful where you buy

I have Avon ZZ5 rear ZZ3 front mix on now and again I like them very good wet performance too and they look like they will last for ages (11k on them now and 5mm left min)

Money dictates I suppose and whats available when your looking - other forum members have said good things about Vreds too

I had the same tyres on 18inch wheels as a spare set which I bought for the first e89 I had which had normal suspension and they were fine nice ride and low noise
But when I changed to the e89 I have not it has sports suspension and even tho the ride was fine the noise was unbearable

Thanks everyone

Have done some more reading on the forum and yes, it's a another "what tyre' thread but I'm about to spend £500 and I want to make the right choice. Plus the market moves on too.

Anyway, the Goodyear F1 asy2 seems to get good reviews too.

I'm not bothered about how quickly their wear or their wet performance (it's our summer fun car)

Am bothered about ride and noise level.

Vred Sessanta looks like £450 a set
F1s are £462 so nothing in it.

OK, but posters do ask the same question. Goodyear Eagle F1's are great.

I used this site when deciding what to buy:-

Vredestein ultrac sessantas's also have a 67 db rating and are a great tyre.

Goodyear eagle f1's are incredible. I have them currently.

Hmmm interesting. I was considering going for rainsport 3s (with the sharkskin technology :D ) but the Eagle F1s are looking pretty competitive and seem to be popular on here so I may reconsider my options. :paper:

Yeah I've seen the Sessantas have 67db noise rating like the Dunlop sportmaxx but I've heard reviews on here from people saying that they are noisy in the cabin.

I know the new EU noise rating is based on noise outside not transmitted inside, so don't know what to think!!

Good years looking favourite at the moment I think

Surprised no mention of Vredstein Ultrac Vorti's I replaced My RFT's with these and have never looked back.Quiet, responsive ,good grip, and offer a level of ride way beyond RFT's. Would I buy the same again In a heartbeat.

Right - my 108's are unbolted and have been taken in for a full blast and refurb next week so new tyre order to go in shortly.

Based on all comments and the fact that I tend to only ever drive it in the summer and mostly dry weather, I'm thinking Goodyear F1 Asy2's, non-runflat obviously - unless there is any final shouts from anyone?

Right - all decided now. Giving the car a right treat!

My 108s have been split and are now getting a full refurb and I've just ordered a full set of Goodyear F1 Asy2's from camskill.

Also have some genuine new wheel centres en-route too.

Really looking forward to seeing a non-corroded set of 108s and also seeing how the non run flats actually make the car feel.

Should all be back on next week sometime.

Bring on the summer!

Good choice, you wont be dissapointed, I had F1s fitted last wednesday and they are great even in the wet

I find Eagle F1s are noisy. My Avon ZZ5s were quieter IMO. The tyre stats may say differently though.

Both great tyres
