What are these Sensors?

While I had the bumper cover off to replace it I noticed these 2 sensors in the front NS tray. Inner one has a probe outer one just flat

As a wild guess one is an external temp sensor?

cj10: I printed this out and will show it to my BMW mechanic in the a.m. to see what he thinks, in the meantime though perhaps someone else can shed some light.

cj: I just spoke with my BMW mechanic (I have a shop I rent to him, he is retired 20 year cert. BMW mech), and he said you are correct, that it is an outside temperature sensor. Leave it be, and good detective work!

Nice to have a BMW mechanis to ask questions of.

So are they both external temp sensor? It would seem od to me to have 2 doing the same thing?

BTW - no inention of moving them. tehy were uncovered purely when the bumper cover was off. Should have pictures of that later today
