What are BMW playing at?

BMW have released the new 1 Series 2017 Official Launchfilm today

This is not however the all new front wheel drive model due next year but a second LCI refresh of the current model, the first LCI was less than 12 months ago. A salesman friend at BMW says in 22 years at BMW he's never known a second LCI of any model especially within 12 months and so close to a model being replaced. Odd why BMW have done this and wandering if they are trying to appease disgruntled long time owners who will be mourning the loss of 6cyl and rear wheel drive next year. So this second LCI is basically new alloy design, headight refresh, part digital dash display, and dash redesign which looks worse to me, with some paint colours dropped on the M140i like glacier silver and orange. Looking at the forums there are some peeved people who have recently ordered and are now seeing a refresh appearing.

Such a ho hum car. There are about the same numbers of new KAs Clios and 1 series around these parts. All pretty similar in the real world.

I think the M140i is pretty special though, nothing else like it out there so will be mourning its loss. I do love mine, its a pretty brilliant alrounder and more useable than an M2/3 as a daily. Would still like an M2 though :D

The halo model and the only one to consider IMHO. But as you your self point out there's the M2. Or you could have a very fine Clio Sport of Fiesta ST. Just saying similar types of cars. Nothing wrong with them that's why there are so many sold and I am so blasé about them. :)

The E30 had two LCIs. Although it was called a facelift in those days. So there is pre-pre-facelift, pre-facelift, and post-facelift. However that was thirty years ago, and the E30 had a very long lifetime.

I don't mind the look of it. Does it still have worst in class boot space and rear doors so close to the rear wheels you have to be a contortionist to get in and it if it in the back like the original 1 series?

Are they possibly phasing in new shared components, i.e. Electronic dashboard etc...

That could be possible with some parts carried over to the replacement model on the MINI platform next year. I'm very surprised they have introduced a redesigned dash so close to a models demise.

It has as much room as a Z4 and you can get a sofa in the back but not the mother in law 8)
