ok so ive got a OBD2 Wifi adaptor and wondered what apps are best etc that people use, and what kind of stuff can you do with it? (on iphone)

my friend at work lent me his bluetooth adaptor and he has an android phone and used the app Torque which was really good, but its not available on the iphone :headbang:

ive currently got rev lite and BMWhat... but i dont want to go and pay for the full apps if there are better apps out there, knowing my luck ill pay for an app and I can get a better app for free  :headbang:

whats dash command like?

I have the torque app. Find it quite good to use, but I have the paid version. There are lite versions out there but don't know what they have compared to the paid version.

yea i quite liked the Torque app.... but its for Android only so as i have a iPhone i have to look for something else :(

I would say it depends on what you want to do with the OBD2 adapter.
Anyway, these are the apps I use with my cars (2003 z4 2.5, stage 1 ESS SC and a 2014 220i)

1. Track day/lap time stat and video recording: Harry's LapTimer(iOS). Together with a GoPoint OBD2 BT adapter)

Made with Harry's LapTimer (iOS), GoPro HERO2 and GoPoint adapter)

2. Dashboard: DashCommand(iOS). (Works perfectly with all the adapters I have. 2 BMWhat WiFi adapters (v1 & the new v2) and 1 Bluetooth)

3. Engine diagnostics and coding: BMWhat Android version for z4 and BMWhat iOS for the 220i (BMWhat USB OBD2 cable for Android and BMWhat WiFi adapter for iOS)

is there anyway i can do coding for my Z with this adapter?... by which i mean program the lights to flash on lock as well as unlock, maybe even a beep from the alarm, 3 blink from indicator etc etc?

If your adapter is compatible with BMWhat and your car is a 2007 (and later) model, then this is exactly the type of stuff you can code with BMWhat. (Get BMWhat Lite to check compatibility)
Read about all the coding options for every compatible BMW model her: http://www.ivini-apps.com/coding.html

So having used Carly on my phone and all worked well with that, I thought I'd give this Dashcommand app a go.

Now I'm connecting to the OBD2 using a usb connection (works fine with Carly) and dashcommand confirms I'm connected to the car, but I'm getting nothing from the gauges on it and it is unable to read codes.

Any help on what I'm doing wrong?

Cheers.

I use Torque too, but it's a pointless reply as you're on iOS.

That said, I also used to be on iOS and bought a cheap Android phone on eBay to upload apps like this onto.

hmmm that could be an option, shame i have all my music on an old iphone so i use it as a carphone/ipod so would have been perfect to use for torque aswell, shame Ios doesnt have the same app :(
