Well I never knew that !!!

Didn't know about that feature either until a few months after I had purchased the car. Only time I really use it is when I park the car with the top down, walk away, then come running back because I'm too scared to leave my baby unprotected.

You can close the top by putting the key in the door lock and turning it to lock and holding it... :)
...but not remotely as far as I know without modifications.

There are two modules sold by Rinehold (sp). One that gives you one touch and one that gives you remote up. The modules can not be purchased in the USA, safety thing. If you have a friend in Canada or Europe, they can purchase and send it to you.
My 04/04 has remote down.

Which subtly implies that us American folk would hurt ourselves if we had top up by remote. I could just see the youtube video now...

Yeah, I'd love to see a lawyers head crushed in one.

Thats exactly what i mean, not aware of any other method other than the rienhold module that needs to be installed.

Me too, btw. I don't if BMW ever built in the top up by remote feature.... anyone?

The North American market doesn't get top up, UK and Europe do.
No we get down only just like you guys, it must be aftermarket if it goes up too.

My first ever post:
My May 2004 Z4 3.0 has a roof that goes up or down with the key in the door. Local dealer showed me how after I had the car for a long time (one of their rare acts of competence). Thought I may have faulty memory, so just went outside and tried it - it definitely goes up and down. Turn key one way it goes down, turn it the other way it goes back up again. Note that there's a lag of a few seconds between turning the key and anything moving. My car is UK supplied.

thats standard with every car...

Get the Reinhold module. 3 blips of the key button and the roof and windows all open in one go. 3 more blips and it closes the hood and windows again.

If you have the key programmed such that it opens the drivers door on one blip and passenger door on the other this functionality will be unaffected.

Incedentally if you have a hardtop the same functionality reverts to operating just the windows.

I had a few teething problems but now it so, so, so, much easier than standing with the key in the lock :D
