Well done David Holmes, Sytner & BMW GB

It isn't often that you find a thread praising after sales service from the dealer network or BMW but I think it is justified in this case.

I've had my AUC car for 6 months, purchased from David Holmes Stockport (now renamed Williams I believe). It is a midnight blue M Coupe with 19k on the clock at present (6.5k in my ownership :D ) A month ago i noticed a creaking from the drivers seat and on closer inspection I discovered the following :-

Now I naively thought I'd just book it in and they would repair under the AUC warranty. However when I took it to Sytner I was advised that because this was classed as "trim" and the car was only covered by an AUC warranty (manufacturers warranty expired in June) that it wouldn't be covered. They did though advise me that had I bought the car from them they would have rectified the issue with no quibbles at their cost. They also advised me to email some photos to David Holmes, which I did and within an hour Michelle the dealer principal rang me and arranged with Sytner to cover the labour cost for 1 hours worth of investigation into what had caused the leather to come undone.

The result of these checks were that the foam underlay needed replacing along with the champagne nappa leather and so Sytner duly put in a goodwill claim to BMW. I was expecting BMW to offer to cover part of the cost and then to have to negotiate with David Holmes on them paying the remainder. But to my surprise and pleasure BMW came back within 24 hours agreeing to pay for all parts and labour.

As the leather seat cover is £531 excl VAT and labour and the foam circa £100 excl VAT, the costs of these works would be approaching £1,000. Therefore I am somewhat relieved that this has all been resolved in the way it has.

I think a big thumbs up to Sytner Nottingham, BMW UK and David Holmes is called for. Well done to you all for your after sales service.

Similar thing happened to my car over a year ago, as a good will gesture BMW paid for most of it but I paid about £120. Trouble is mine is now creaking again so i need to take another look at it, but I think it may be too late to get them to cover it now.

When I had a goodwill contribution from BMW I was told that because I'd paid something for the part, rather than 100% goodwill, it'd be covered under warranty for 12 months. Prob worth asking them then.

If David Holmes is now a Williams dealership then I'll have to find yet another dealership for my stamp, as I swore never to use a Williams franchise ever again.

I must admit I was a little disappointed when they referred to themselves as Williams. David Holmes was run very much as the family business that it actually was. But, credit where credit is due, my only experience with them as Williams Stockport has been first class.

I suppose I'll have to wait & see then, and hope the Williams' ways of working don't impede the excellent service I got from the staff at David Holmes.

BTW, when I got my oil service done on 9th September, they were still referring to themselves as David Holmes (and my stamp is for David Holmes), which is strange when the press release on the Williams website states the handover was 27th August.

Thanks for the feedback, no longer an issue now as I have traded it in for a new model 8)
