Welded repair for split alloys

Its a thorny subject i know & often divides opinion on the forum but hopefully this post can show that a split alloy doesn't always mean its gash or unsafe .
Its been a few years since i last came across a alloy with a split whether that be a big name manufacturer or cheap reps but last week i collected a set of Ronal 19s from refurb that came off our own F11 5 series .
Lovely job but i was gutted when they pointed out the beginning of a split on one wheel  i certainly hadn't noticed it :(
it wasn't leaking air :? wasn't any longer than 10mm & hadn't gone the whole way from out to in :( anyways they are style 331s & finding a matching single rim would be virtually impossible so i took it a guy i have used previously for repair .
Just got it back & happy to see its been done to his usual standard .
A defined cut is put down the split before being welded & dressed off , the repair you don't want to see is where they weld over the split hoping it will do the job  initially maybe but it won't last for any duration .

Top job - no buckle? I fear for the 20s on our x3 - just a matter of time....

Have you got runflats on them? If yes, change to normal tyres to give those rims an easier time

No runflats, but internet knowledge suggests you should run bmw star marked tyres to avoid transfer case issues - and you can't seem to find them in anything other than runflat format. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.... :(
