2003 Z4. Panic attack today thinking my roof motor had gone bad. Top was already down. When I pushed the button to raise it, nothing happened and the red light blinked. When I pushed the lowering button, I heard something buzz behind me and the light stopped flashing red. Ugh. Turned the car off and on again. Same result. Tried with engine running and while on battery. Same result.
I then read everything about roof motors and sensors and blocked drains in every forum there is (that Shipkiller guy is amazing by the way) and resigned myself to ordering a new motor and figuring out when I'm going to have a day to kill to replace the roof.
For some reason I decided to try the key in the door for raising and lowering the roof. It works fine!! I tried it several times and the roof goes up and down without any problems. No weird noises. Nothing. Normal operation as far as I can tell.
So, my question is: what is wrong with my buttons and how do I fix it?
Doubt any of this is related, but full disclosure. I unhooked the battery this morning to do some work on the car. Replaced headlight bulbs and license plate bulbs. No problems. Lights work fine. Also, emergency brake handle has been sticking and now makes a loud click when used. Again, really doubt related but throwing it out there.
