Weird story

This sounds odd to me: Story

8 minutes on the phone, never pressing a clutch, not putting the car in neutral, not putting the handbrake on?

They also make it sounds as if the speed is supersonic or so - "now going 77", and on an empty motorway.

Very weird story, especially as there did not seem to be anything wrong with the car.

Yep, very odd. Panic? Surely the ignition could have been temporarily turned off and on to temporarily slow the car.
Hard to believe the clutch, brake and gearbox all would not impact on the cruise control. . . . :?

I saw this earlier, it does seem strange. From the article it looks like the car was a manual, you should be able to knock it into neutral even without the clutch.
Otherwise you could run it along the crash barrier on the central reservation to slow it down if you really had to.
Poor bloke, must have been a terrifying experience irrespective of the cause.

My suspicious mind would check if there is a life insurance policy involved.

Have to say this had me baffled too. It would surely take several simultaneous major failures. Posibly more to it than a mechanical breakdown. Poor bugger RIP. :(

On a slightly different note, why was the truck parked up on the motorway?
It says the female driver was sleeping in the back of the cab.
