Wear on engine under valve cover!

So after my adventure under the valve cover, on my way to fail at doing the vanos, I noticed the wear or scraping on part of the engine.

This can't be good right?

I doubt that’s happened inside of the engine, it’s more likely to have been machined that way before assembly

Is that not the camshaft? Have they not done that at factory to keep it balanced? Or am I looking at it wrong?!

It is the camshaft I think!

I had no idea that it could be like this from factory!
That's reassuring, thank you all!

Agree with the others. That is not wear. It was made like that. It would not have an edge like it has, if it was a wear mark.

It's grinding marks from balancing the camshaft  don't panic captain manwaring!

I work in an engine production facility and see this kind of thing all the time, so nothing to worry about  some of the pistons I've fitted look really messed up (not the crown, of course) same thing with flywheels also.
