Weak washer jets

Hi all,

I picked my z4 coupe up 2 weeks ago, on the drive home the roads were really salty so i was using loads of washer fluid. I got home, parked it up for the night and then we had serious temperature drops, around -10. Now, there is hardly any pressure in coming out of the nozzles, the headlight wash works perfectly so its not frozen up. On the way home from picking it up it was fine, lots of pressure, now i have to keep pulling at the stalk rapidly to get it to squirt what little liquid there is to come out before the pressure drops and its back to a trickle.

any ideas?

I had this problem - It was just gunk blocking the filter in the washer tank.

Worth just taking the tank out and giving it and all the washer lines a good clean.

Doesnt take long, and you will be surprised about just how much gunk has collected over the years!

how does one go about cleaning the tank and the lines?

Cleaning the tank should suffice. Should be quite easy to remove , although I have never done this to a Z4, just remove the connections first then there will probably be a bolt holding it to the body of the car. Once done try cleaniing the nozzles with a pin or replace them, in fact you could try this first but if there's any debris in the tank the nozzles might just block up again.

Also try checking under the bonnet for any leaks. If frozen pipes you should avoid using the windscreen wash until defrosted, the water might have found an alternate route. ALso using it when frozen can damage the pump
