WBAC

Paprika red, fantastic car. Hydraulic roof kit in the boot where it does not get wet 8)

Full VW main dealer service history, all 22 years in May. Only item replaced in the 34k miles it has done is the front brake rubber hoses that were bulging, but nothing else has ever been replaced (besides the starter motor that was temperamental and Bing helped changing that a couple of months back).

No power steering - so low speed turning is rather a muscle feast

As somebody has already stated, WBAC are now owned by BCA (car auction) - all the cars they buy go straight to auction and sold under the name UKCGR. I have been to a few auctions recently and selected a few random cars from their section and inputed the details into WBAC just to see what kind of money they are making (you have to use a registration from a similar car on AT as WBAC recognise they have previously bought the car). I was surprised to find that on the cars I selected they were making circa. £600-800 and that wasn't taking into account any damage which would have reduced the purchased price even more. Given that WBAC is owned by BCA the sellers commission with be very small so not a bad business model - many years ago I worked for a trader who underwrote and bought trade-ins from main dealers and sold at auction (and to other dealers) and he depended on volume as the profit per car only averaged around £200-300.

I am still looking for a Z4 2007/8 2.0 Sport and have found that the prices offered by WBAC have increased substantially since moving into Summer (I check cars I find on BCA website) - maybe I will wait to winter when prices drop!

I can only admire the passion you have for looking after cars Paul!

Its a shame that Bing has ruined all the hard work you had put in with the Zed though! (only banter Bing :) )

As PVR has pointed out - having a personal plate is a problem unless you let it go with the car - they have advised , as expected , that I will have to put the plate on retention first and then make another appointment. The one good thing that has come out of this is the value of the car - almost as much as I paid for it over 2 years ago :D

Just put mine in for a laugh. Came back at £12k which considering I paid £15.5k 3 1/2 years ago means these ///M's are holding up really well.

mines valued at £7,895.... not bad considering i paid £8k for it just over 6months ago :P

Paul - what do you think of this:

Difficult to say from pictures alone, at 10 years older than mine and 4 times the mileage, it will have a list of potential issues that you have to check out (fuel tank filler, wheel arches and a whole host).

Cheers mate - just an idea - Wightbay is not the most prestigious place to seriously look for a car but as iit's local to me might be worth a reccy - has been viewed a lot which doesn't bode well - just like these old VW's.

Yes, a VW gets under your skin. I have had one my entire life since I started driving.
