Wax Advice - Blackfire Blackice Hybrid Montan or Zymol Concours Glaze

Hi All,

Im due to buy a Rupes Mkll polisher in the new year (when released) and in readiness for a thorough car detail, I'm looking to buy a decent wax to apply to my Carbon Black Z4 Coupe.
Has anyone used either of the above and recommend which one provides the best finish? I want a deep gloss shine... :) (I intend to take my time and prep/ clay bar properly)

Thanks for your input...

Not used Blackfire but it is a little outdated now. Having said that it always got decent reviews. As for Zymol Concours the smell of the stuff is lovely but the wax itself i personally was a bit underwhelmed by it, also retail its now £200+ a pot and just isn't a £200 wax imho.
Of the zymol range i'd say Glasur was by a long way my favourite. Glasur was my first expensive(well to me anyway)wax and if i didn't have the knowledge i have now i'd probably still be using it. problem for me is i got addicted to trying waxes and have moved on to better now well in my eyes anyway.
How much do you have to spend and is durability a concern as well as looks or is it purely a looks product you want??

out of the 2 mentioned, I would go with the zymol.

however, in real terms, I wouldn't even think about that as I think it's waaay overrated and too costly (and I have zymol royale! lol )

pretty much all of the gloss and shine of paintwork comes from the polishing stage, wax adds very little to the overall end result.

For the price point of the zymol, I would look at definitive wax, I still tend to reach from one of theirs when I get around to waxing.

I have used a LOT of waxes over the years, and still have some Zymol royale in the fridge....

For a carbon black car,i would use the polish of your choice.... Then i would use 50 cal show glaze, and top with Ioncoat naviwax dark..

Both can be had for £20ish to your door and are outstanding products.

I also like Fusso 99 King of gloss if your going for a wet looking finish, although the wax is quite soft and "buttery"......Very little is needed and it comes off easy enough..

Take a look at some not as well known companies such as auto perfection who are just about to launch a new wax called Evolve. ODK, carspunk, Mad Cow or even Autobrite Autograph or Swisswax.

Can highly recommend Fusso followed by Authentic premium which will give you the protection and deep gloss.

At the moment I am using AG SRP and/or 50cal Cover-up Filler Glaze followed by AG HD Wax and/or 50cal Pentawax and/or Collinite 845. The below photo is 50cal Cover-up then AG HD Wax + Collinite 845.
I am very pleased with the results and none of these products cost the earth either.

How come you have used Collonite on top of HD wax ?

BTW.....how do you find the Pentawax..... I have some but not used as yet.

I like the 'depth' of the AG HD wax and the way it reveals the fine flake in the Sterling Grey but I find it doesn't seem to weather very well and loses its water repellency so I go over it with a very thin application of Collinite 845 which beads like crazy and lasts ages. I have a tin of Pentawax which I bought only recently and have used only once as I was keen to see what it was like. It's as easy to use as AG HD with a similar finish if perhaps a softer, warmer sheen to it. I shall use up my AG HD and then move onto the Pentawax. I will report back when I have given it a couple more goes.

Fair do's

Try Ioncoat naviwax dark.....or Fusso King of gloss.

My faves at the moment, the ioncoat last ages, the KOG gives a real unusually dark finish

Great feedback from you all, I will do a little more research on the products mentioned and get some prices together.

I have always been curious whether a £200 tub or wax is really that much better than a £30-50 tub?

Thanks Leadfoot Z ! It's my absolute pride and joy and a labour of love. Well polished Sterling Grey really does show all the Z4s curves and lines.

I have Black Ice and do not like it. I have about 35 waxes total. I've never used Concours by Zymol, but do have their Glasur.

The thing about BI is it's pretty durable. Most waxes are a compromise between durability and looks. There are a few that excel in both departments. I really love Naviwax Ultimate and Collinite 915. Both look good and last a while.

If your looking for a more show style wax, I'd go with Pinnacle Souveran, BF Midnight Sun, Vic's Red, or one of The Dodo Juice Pro Waxes.
