Waterless Car Wash?

Just bought a 8 dollar waterless car wash spray, which washes and shines. Seems to work pretty good although It feels like I'm lazily wiping down a piece of furniture.
I'm planning to use this whenever I can't get it washed the old fashioned way, so is it safe for long term use?
Thx guys.

Its a question that I've pondered on for ages, and generally speaking its something I think I'd only consider if my car were a very light colour, like white. Because... no matter what you use, essentially you're dragging sharp dirt across your paint because you've not washed off the coarse stuff first. On my car for instance, using jet wash, snow foam and all the right kit, still results over time in slight scratching. If I used a waterless spray only, I can guarantee I'd ruin the paint in no time at all.

On a white car, you can't see the scratches as much, so I'd risk it on that. Personally, for a darker car, I'd never use the stuff because I wouldn't want to risk the paint.

I have to admit I don't understand the product and like Maniac, I would not use it.

The tests seems to be favourable though, but I just can not get my head around using a cloth to wipe over sand on the car ...

I too am cautious over the waterless wash solutions...

I have however just bought some Optimal No Rinse (ONR) which I used the other weekend - 1 bucket of water cleaned two cars with no scratching at all... was quite impressed :D

Been waiting for someone to try this and post some results... Do you rate it then gannet ? Reckon it would be ok even on a black car ? Oh, and how do you clean your wheels ? Sorry, Spanish Iquisition

Got another one though - does it smell as bad as I have heard ?

My detailer shudders when people talk about these.

They will scratch the paintwork but a lot of people don't care about that if you look at the swirls on a lot of cars in any light......I would avoid like the plague........

I've had experience with Chemical Guys Waterless Wash System - I bought some last summer and trialled it on my campervan rather than risk it untested (by me) on my Z4. Very happy with it.

I ensured the paintwork was highly waxed prior to use, and didn't let the paintwork get too dirty before use. It was fine though and meant I could keep my van sparkly throughout a 3-week, 2500mile European tour through Germany, Switzerland and France without going near a carwash (2 bucket method not possible on a campsite!).

I'd recommend it :)

lol, lots of questions...

I should have taken some before and after shots I suppose, but the car looked like I had been rallying :o just half an hour later and by not using much pressure it was sparkling - and there are NO scratches. It works by lifting the dirt and holding it in suspension in the water and mitt - I think  wheels I just used the same after Id done the body work.

no idea about a black car - ours are white and silver - can't see why not though - PaulN on here has also used it and his is black...

I noticed no bad smell...

many of the guys on detailing world also use it, so if its good enough for them...

In gannets case, they are just go faster stripes then :poke:

trust you :P

I watched a YouTube on this yesterday

I was put off straight away when they were doing stage one 'wiping the car down'

The narrator said this would 'minimize' any scratching on stage 2

Not going to use it on black, end of. I can introduce scratches even when doing everything spot on with a jet wash/snow foam approach so I daren't think what just wiping the paint right away will do...
