Water pump

Hello everyone.
My wife (and I) got a 2003 Z4 2.5i. My understating is this engine should be the M54 B25. From my Z3 experience it seems this engine had a water pump that was catastrophically failing because of a plastic impeller. On the Z3 they were suggesting to replace it with a Stewart High Performance pump or the new BMW pump with metal impeller as a preemptive measure.
Does this suggestion apply to the Z4 as well?
Thanks

Have not heard of any water pump failures for the Z4. May want to check on Bimmerfest with some of the Gurus over there, though.

Great, one is checked off the list!!!!!!!!!!
Where can I find a list of the most common issues that Z4s tend to have? As a (VERY HAPPY) Z3 owner I'm used to deal with "minor" German engineers flaws... eheheh!!!
Thanks

Steering "sticking" on hot days and the new crop of rear springs breaking seem to be the only reoccuring problems I have seen, across multiple cars.

The water pump failed on my '07 3.0si (N52 w/electric water pump) at about 4500 miles. Story was that the computer saw that the pump was drawing too much current so it shut it off!

We have electric water pumps, learn something new everyday, always thought they were mechanical of the main drive belt/chain

I think is just the new engines (ie the N52). M54 (such as yours) have belt driven water pump.

yea your're gonna need it soon. they are plastic impellers as used in E46's they are prone to failure. mine on the other hand has been good @ 79000miles.

im going to buy waterpump, belts, and thermostat to do a over all cooling system maintenance.

Ok, thanks. Does anyoine knows when BMW start installing the metallic impeller as OE?
I would suggest you use a Stweart water pump if you replace it: it's more expensive but is worth its price
