Water inside side mirrors

Anyone else have this problem?

My side mirrors have become somewhat distorted from what I thought was oxidation. I soon found out that they were in fact not oxidized, when I pressed the mirror with my finger. There was actually water trapped inside of them instead! Any advice on how to drain the water would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

never head of this but i'd take the mirrors out and take a closer look and try and work out what is going on.

are they OEM mirrors? you could probably get a bit of water sitting behind them. could it be this coming out?

Yeah, they are OEM mirrors. We just got a bit of rain here the other day and the mirrors are almost filled to the top with water! How do I take the mirrors out?

Do you have the chromatic mirrors? I have seen samples of them that have the chromatic fluid leak so it might not be water.

Yes, I do have self dimming mirrors. It could quite possible be the chromatic liquid but it really looks like water. It is now beginning to rust behind the glass. Do you have any idea how I can drain the water out or any direction on remove the glass?

The glass will need replacing though. The replacement of glass has been covered on here somewhere, will have a search.

*edit* Seems to be just a pull at the glass action:

No dont just rip!!

A TIS will explain this better but here goes...

angle the mirror all the way up so its point at the sky. then push the top. it will angle in a bit more giving you about a 1cm gap at the bottom between the bottom of the mirror and the shell.

now attached to the mirror is a ring that rotates to lock it to the shell. get a torch and look up in that gap. you;ll need a flat head screw driver. the flat edge perpendicular to the mirror face push it up and into a hole you should be able to see.

now youll use the screw driver to rotate the ring round to release it from the shell.

The thing is, it will probably be a little stiff due to grime and i cant remember if you move the screwdriver left or right!! it only needs to travel about 1cm.

Buy a TIS from ebay for a few bucks. if my description is a bit crap.
