Water in trunk plastic storage compartment

After driving in the rain, I'm seeing water in the left side plastic storage compartment. Anyone know where it might be coming from? The rest of the trunk is completely dry including the battery area.

I had a bit of that, if you're car has updated rear lights (most have the old ones let in water ironically) the new lights have only 2 bolts rather than 3, this leaves a hole in the chassis where the bolt would pass through. I filled said hole with silicone sealant and it now remains mostly dry. Do the other side too as there are a stack of electric gubbins over there. Occasionally after a few days solid rain there may still be a tiny amount of damp in there but its 99.9% drier than it was and almost always bone dry now

Remove the plastic pins, lift the trim out an place tissue paper around and see where it gets wet.

I had the same problem. The cause was a leak on the near side rear light cluster. After failed attempts using silicon sealant it was replaced with a secondhand unit. If you look closely into the light cluster you may notice water inside, in which case you should replace it.

I had the exact same problem in mine, I removed the rubber trim around the top edge of the boot opening where the hinges are, removed all the old sealant and replaced it with some black silicone, no more water

I just washed the car and couldn't reproduce the water leak. I'm thinking it might happen when the car is in motion.

Car sat overnight and I got water again. Must be as others said, light cluster or rubber mouldings.

you can tell if its these if the rubber strip is wet on the top/sides..

Yep, rubber seal. Unfortunately it cost a ridiculous price. Over $230... I circled the drip.

Looks like the weather strip ripped on the outside edge, in the area shown in clarker63's picture. I believe the tear causes it to loose it's firmness and seal. I'm going to try inserting a foam dowel inside the weatherstrip in that area. Worth a try, a lot cheaper than replacing the whole weatherstrip.

not ripped on mine, failure of the sealant on the flat part of the seal just out of shot, kept on with two bolts was my issue.

Just follow-up... I found a used rubber lower seal on ebay for $40. It looks almost new. Planning to install it later this week.
