Water in the frame?? Help!!

Hey all

Water is accumulating in the frame of my 2005 2.5i. How the heck does water get into the frame?? :scratchhead: What are the possible entry points? Is there a way to test these spots to see which one is the culprit?

I'm planning to drill holes in the jack pads, but I'd like to fix the source of the problem.

Also, my floor is a bit damp - could the water be seeping in from the frame or is that a separate issue?

If you or a previous owner has tried to force a rod through the roof drains to clear them, then the joints may have parted so water leaks into the sills.

Do you mean the sills?

Pop one of the fixings off the side skirts it will all drain out- look underneath you’ll see them

Can water get into the frame if the windshield gasket isn't glued in firmly?
Forgive me, I thought it was you who was talking about how to clear them only recently? The drains below the roof hinges.

Yes, that was me, but somehow I was thinking, based on another comment, that there might a roof and/or windscreen drainage area toward the front of the car near the windscreen. I did try to poke through drain hole in the pockets near the rear wheels. I successfully unclogged the side without the motor. On the side with the motor, I couldn't find it because I believe the motor sits just above the drainage hole.

I think I mean the actual frame because when I wiggle the jack pads, water comes out - a lot of water! I wiggle it until no more water exits. Am I using the wrong term when I say "frame"? When you say "sill", are you talking about the trim at the bottom of the doorway opening that says BMW on it? Or, are you talking about the panel that is part of the car body below the door?

If you take the drain plugs out, make sure there is nothing blocking them afterwards. Then park the car at angle so the rear is at the lowest point and water should run out.

If you take a jack point out, make sure as well that the car is parked at an angle that it flows to that being the lowest point.

When you say "drain plugs", do you mean just the rubber grommet? Or are you talking about the tube the attaches to the bottom of the reservoir?

So far, I've noticed that when I park on a flat surface and wiggle either the rear or front jack pad, water comes out after it rains. There aren't any inclines near where I usually park, but I could try it as a test to see what happens.
