Washer fluid

I've noticed a few posts about frozen headlight washers and I'm wondering what the temperature rating is on the washer fluid in the UK? The cost per gallon and do you normally dilute it .

Ours is -40 and I never dilute it.

I always dilute it to about 75% water. It usually freezes in the jets if the temp is well below freezing, and even using it neat they still freeze.

If your stuff freezes easily it must be mostly a soap mixture and if I was faced with the cost of removing bumpers and replacing jets etc I'd suggest dumping a little alcohol in the mix during the cold spells as added insurance against freeze-ups.

(That would be methanol, not good quality Scotch )

:D

I think the stuff I bought out of Tesco says that it works down to -5 and thats using it neat.
I suppose you could use that "Black & White" crap that Britrail used to serve, it's probably cheaper then the Tesco washer fluid and it is 40% alcohol.

The stuff I buy is rated for -40....
Never frozen yet but we seldom get anywhere near -40...

Yep, most of our stuff is -40 too but the cheap (wallymart) stuff can sometimes turn to slush in extreme cold. I only had my washer fluid go slushy once and it was minus 40. I was more relieved that the truck started and didn't really care about the wipers, as long as the heater worked. :D :D

WTF was I doing outside in -40? Working, aaargh. :x Once I went deer hunting in -42 and the gear oil in my 77 Capri froze while I was driving down the highway. Jeezis, I won't do that again....

I can tell you for sure that if the explorers that landed here had landed in the winter they would have taken the bottom half of this continent and left the top bit for the Pilgrims who came later. It's either that or they wanted to be in some place that reminded them of the northern tip of Scotland on a bad day. :D

Yuck, hate the WalMart blue stuff. Dealer usually tops off for me, but when I have to buy, I've gotten Prestone and I've looked into getting the stuff from Einzett
