Warranty question about headlamp washer jets

Hi all,

I've had a problem with a leak in my screenwash resevoir so it's been to the dealers under approved used warranty and they have said the problem is actually one of the high pressure washer jets for the headlamp.

They've said this isn't covered under warranty as the actual component to fail is a seal, but to repair it they need to replace the high pressure jet - they can't just replace the seal. It seems to me that this should be covered as it's the overall part that's failed, not an individual seal. The part number is 61677057452 and it's here on realoem.com:

If it's not available as a independent part then it can't have failed as an independent part - i.e. the jet has failed. I'd guess most failures are down to one part of the assembly failing rather than the whole thing.

If they can't replace the seal without replacing the whole jet, then that's their problem for buying the assembly that way.

To me it's no different than a seal on a fuel injector failing and causing the engine to grenade - you'd expect the whole engine to be replaced not just the seal on the fuel injector.

Otherwise I'm sure there are plenty of crashed Z4Ms for you to pick one up 2nd hand.
 
This s**t from BMW really pisses on my chips. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: .It seems that they find any crap excuse they can think up to wriggle out of paying for the smallest items.When the end came off my dipstick recently they tried to tell me that this wasnt covered as it was a trim part,wtf told them to get stuffed as i wasnt paying for it and hey presto suddenly i dont have to pay.It is SUPPOSED to be a premium brand but seems to me that they are decsending down to the levels of the likes of Ford,Vauxhall etc.
Sorry for the rant but it really gets on my wick :evil: :evil: :evil:
 
Thanks guys - my thoughts exactly - so I will "discuss" it with them.

I just rang the warranty department and they claim that because it's on the exterior of the car (arguable) it's a wear and tear item and therefore not covered. They are also claiming that any seals on any component are not covered and if the component fails because of a seal then it's not covered under warranty. Hmmm. Crooks.

Will have to take it up with the service manager and see.
 
My NS headlamp washer jet is now also leaking and emptying the washer bottle. We all know BMW will do their level best to wriggle out of a warranty claim on anything given the slightest chance and that, my friends, is exactly why I've decided not to renew my "must have" BMW warranty this year. Wish me luck...!! :wink:
 
Had a problem with the jets on my 335d ,Spoke with BMW warranty dept and agreed to replace jets under warranty.Try other dealer think it depends who you speak too ! search internet to see if it`s a known fault.
