Warranty - any opinions on 3rd party company?

Just been contacted by a warranty company...a bit pricy but covering a lot. Being new to this I'm not sure on typical running costs for Z4. We have a 2.5i late 2008 with just under 25K on the clock and plan 8-10K miles per year...any thoughts would be welcomed

covering 'wear and tear', sudden failure, consequential failure and diagnostic tests on most things (not tyres etc) but roof motor would be included for example...

apparently covers service failures and MOT failures on components covered...labour up to £200 p/h also covered

£550 per year all in with a £50 excess on all claims but no increase in policy if claim details

Warranty DIrect is the mob...anyone got any experience? :thumbsup: or :thumbsdown:
 
They seem OK.
Watch that they want an inspection prior to cover commencement (chargeable, usually) and you must keep the service record squeeky clean. Authorisation from WD MUST be obtained before any repair work else they can refuse to pay out. Policy cost is reasonable, but don't dive right in as they add extras as an incentive if you stall.
 
Cheers - they have been persistent with calls but to be fair not pushy. THis is apparently for 'top-level' cover blah blah. Surprised at what is covered (OK this is just what they say). Can't really ask you about running costs with Alpina but are there any big clouds having over z4s?

As their prices seem to be quite reasonable. I am also looking to buy a warranty so please keep us informed as to anything you find or decide on!
 
I just went with BMW on a Z4M for a years warranty.

I was surprised how much the breakdown cover (BMW Insured Emergency Service) that came with it was.

I already have RAC cover so decided not to take this at around £80 although it did seem to cover foreign use.

And yes, aren't WD persistent!

WD Alpina cover prices are a bit higher, though actually not significantly so. I was recently quoted about £750 for full cover for the Roadster S. Major cost implications on an ALPINA failure above any other Z4 is engine-related. Specialist Mahle pistons, ALPINA-specific cams and crank, headgasket, (£350 on its own), manifold, stainless exhaust etc etc are the scary bits. Most of the rest of the car is pretty standard.. :rofl:

Weaknesses in Z4 range? - a few, yes.

1. Electric steering failure.
2. Noisy VANOS
3. Rear suspension spring failure.
4. Hood motor failure
5. Headgaskets on the Alpina.
Plus other 'minor' irritants as with all cars

Bound to have missed something, though :oops:

WD are VERY persistent. Annoyingly-so at times.
 
You can get the top level BMW warranty with no excess for £41 per month, which is what I would go for if I were you, will be better than a 3rd party warranty.

You will be locked to BMW for servicing though.
