Warranty and MOT

Hi guys, okay so I'm new to this forum and tbh I haven't got a clue about cars, but I'd love to start knowing new things, my first car was only something cheap and something to get me from a to b, so I've never actually had a car serviced by someone else. I've just done it myself When I did my MOT my mate knows someone who does them so I got it a little cheaper but he fixed a few things on my car.

I'm looking to buy a Z4 soon but obvs I want to keep this well maintained etc, I've never had warranty on a car before this will be the first, I know not everything's covered but my question is, if I was to buy this car and let's say the MOT was due next month. Could I buy the car and when it's taken for MOT if it needs work doing could I use this as evidence and show the dealer I bought the car from to sort what needs sorting for it to pass its MOT?? I hope this all makes sense and may sound stupid but I can't find an answer on the internet and I've never experienced it myself so couldn't go from past encounters, thanks a lot guys

You can generally have a car MOT's a month before its due so there is a little bit of leeway. Im selling mine atm and I waited to get mine MOT'd gives you a minimum date you can have it done, obviously you loose a month but as BMW are currently doing all MOTs for £35 its not a lot to loose anyway. I wanted it through its MOT for exactly those reasons above, make sure its spot on for the next owner and if any issues I could have them sorted before putting up for sale.

So I'm assuming if it has a warranty its for sale with a dealer? It should be MOT'd for a year with the sale tbh and if its not alarm bells of the dealer would be ringing. Its common practice to buy a car with a 12 month mot as standard, if its an approved used BMW it should have had its 100 and odd inspection done before being put up for sale so I would push to se this. TBH MOTs just cover the standard road worthiness anyway and a good look around the car can give you an idea, obviously its a bit harder to look at movement in ball joints emissions etc. But I would have it all sorted before any cash is handed over therefore a lot of headaches are elevated, or I would walk away and find another.

Yes, if it's tested more than a month before the due date then it stays as that date for the following years mot date.
