Warning lights, Speedo failure and Speed sensor problems

Just when I thought Christmas was over and all the decorations taken down the wife came back from a trip (essential) with the dash lit up like Xmas.
I immediately though the worst in that the ABS / DSC pump that I had previously repaired had possibly failed again.
But close inspection revealed the TPS warning as well.

This time around the Speedo failed as well no speed registering although both Cruise control and DSC worked.

ICarSoft revealed a Left Rear Wheel speed sensor fault : 5BD3

This was confirmed whilst driving with zero output :

Both Rear Wheel Speed sensors had been replaced in Nov 2019 with Pattern parts - the 12 month warranty having just expired.
However when I looked at the wheel reluctor ring it had bright teeth and dirty teeth so something had been rubbing - the new sensor, which I found to be 1mm longer than the BMW original which I had kept: The sensor end had corresponding slight wear.

I refitted the original BMW wheel sensor 1mm shorter ( 3452 675 7281) cleared the fault and on subsequent road test all was normal.

Beware pattern wheel sensors even if they do have the right PNo - check length before fitting!!!! They lasted 13 months.

Oh and I found that the coil spring was broken as well so that a job for next week!

Just as well we are in lockdown and I have time on my hands -
Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for the post. I had the Christmas trees coming up at the beginning of December. Turned out to be a corroded reluctor ring. Bought a pair from UKPartsDirect.com for £26.98. They come with a tube of adhesive which my mechanic didn't need to use because they were a really good fit. So if you do need new rings, I would recommend them. That was for a 2007 2.5si by the way.
Robert.
