Firstly as it's a 108 thread I’ll say hello to cj10jeeper as he will of course be drawn in by the title! With cars on my mind I decided to do something car-rie (and it wasn't making up that word).

My silver 108’s and tyres have given me much summer fun sliding round roundabouts but they are complete pony in the wet, so alas its time to commission the black 108's and get some winter tyres.

Needing a light refurb on the rim as 20k miles of use last time saw a touch of kerb rash, I set to work. The rim inners are painted black already from the last refurb to stop corrosion and these with the spokes were pretty good still. Last time I had the rim painted; this time I’ve plumbed for raw alloy and lacquer.

Excellent work

Can I ask (because I've been considering the same thing): what winter tyres do you use? I've been searching for some decent but cheap winter tyres in either 17" or 18" for my Z4 but the price of tyres has put me off buying a second set of alloys...

I'm intending keeping the Z4 for years so it makes sense for me to invest in a second set of wheels with cold weather-specific tyres, especially given where I live.

Cheers
Ally

a11y, I used Avon Ice Touring ST last year and they were absolutely awesome. Get a set of 17s and run 225/45 17 all round.

Thanks Mike. It's something I'm very tempted to do - also allows me the luxury to attempt a better quality home refurb on my current 108s if I had a second set of wheels/tyres...

Edit: so talking about £360 for winter tyres all-round, hmmm....

Pure 108 alloy porn :) Look great.

BTW - what is that large Birmingham screwdriver (lump hammer) doing and what part does that devil's tool have in alloy refurbishment :poke:

Ah, we just call that the BFH...

(guess: knocking the inners away from the outer part of the rim? mine needed a "tap" with aforementioned BFH...)

I use a heavy rubber/nylon hammer for the same purpose.
