Wanted: Facelift Driver Side Headlight

Hey guys,

I found a passenger side headlight with a clear indicator that needs to be taken apart and fitted to my pre-facelift lights.
I wasn’t going to brave this one but I guess I’m addicted to tinkering with my car now and I can’t resist!

I need a driver side headlight with a clear indicator. Or even just the indicator if anyone has it??



Let’s see how good my chances are with this one! :?

Depends on what exactly you want.

I have a clear os xenon silver inner brand new unused unit, but if your after a cheap damaged broken one to strip - then a lot of Ebay and searching/calling breakers

i want to keep black inners so it would most likely be a damaged/broken one to strip in order to get exactly what i want.
 
Then Ebay saved search is your friend.

See a NS went the other day very cheap - was it you that bagged it?
 
Rudd_2002, that's the problem, once you start, it's hard to stop! I was the same with the bike and then the house... tinkering, there should be something for it!

might have been, i just saw it on ebay and the guy only lives down the road from me so i figured id watch/bid for it and just pick it up.

im getting it on the weekend. if its the one that ended last night the yeah it was me....bargain :P


pawnsacrifice....i know, i cant stop messing with the car! private plate is next f these lights dont cost me a bomb over the next couple of weeks. :D

The one I saw went for £21.79 inc a pair of facelift fogs - Pretty good price for one to cannibalise.

Gone are the days when I picked them up for £10 each damaged - teach me to do a write up
 
£10 each!!!!! i think at that price everyone would be giving it a go.


yeah that one was me, i just need to wait for a the one i need now.

emailed a few breakers but im guessing they will charge a premium price, my hunting will start on the weekend.

i was thinking of spraying the orange bits black and trying that out but im not too sure what the effect would be like. :|

May need a donor for one I bought if it doesn't fix up okay. Hoping a little work and it will slot straight in! But that's the risk with used parts bought unseen. Anyway, have a damaged plastic lug, any suggestions for a decent plastic adhesive?
Am sure I used a two part adhesive on a bike headlight with great results, but can't remember what it was :headbang:
 
araldite or something would do the trick.

most of the lugs are broken off this one but i only need the inner part so im not that bothered really.

Sort of what I was thinking... just checking in case one of you had something special in the locker! In no rush so I may try one, test it and then move to another if it doesn't hold up!
 
Make sure the plastic is very clean (use Isopropyl Alcohol) and roughen it up a bit with some sandpaper to improve the strength of the bond.

It's a thermal plastic and you can melt it with a soldering iron or similar if you want to give it a go. Use some spare plastic off a damaged light to add extra strength.

Will proceed directly to Maplins after work for the Isopropyl alcohol (be good to have) and maybe a soldering iron - I'll dig out something to practice my technique on! Sure I still have some bike bits knocking around. I don't have any broken lights, but yes may plan was to graft on something to add strength - even if it was just a couple thing layers of something as laminate.

Dave... that Isopropyl Alcohol is excellent - tested it on my old wiper pan, cleaned brilliantly and then disappeared completely!

CJ... bought a £8 soldering iron from Maplin, brilliant! Didn't doubt your advice but my ability having never used one. As soon as I stopped heating both halves and realised to hold them together it was remarkably straightforward. (Famous last words) Actually now looking forward to try it out on the headlight.

glad it worked. Make sure you gently blend some of the surrounding plastic over the joint and if possible add a few offcuts to strengthen it further
 
Glad the practice went well - look forward to hearing your results on the light.
