Wanted: E85 twin centre air vent cassette.

I recently discovered that my left centre vent couldn't be closed with the open and shut dial, having removed the cassette from the dashboard (that's another story!) I saw the rotator mechanism which shuts and opens the vent is broken. In need of a replacement, and would prefer to buy second hand to keep costs down

yeah the vents aint cheap about £40 on ebay. Have you checked in side though as there little holes each twisty part that moves clicks into so you can open/close the slats. The grey/black otside trim should clip off it. Then make sure all the little pars inside are lined up properly as they work on a sort of cam system if ones not in its locationg slot properly it will jam and none will open/close. It may just need replacing if not working after youu checked all that.

Removing it is quite easy once you know how. Theres two tiny silver prongs inside if you look up with a torch. Once you click them down the vent slides out easily. ive had 2 z4 and both had damage to the sides where owners have tried to get it out that way which is wrong and just mark your dash

When installing my aux lead I found that to remove the vent first I had to pull down the 2 silver prongs at the top AND pull up the 2 plastic prongs in the bottom left and right, it wasn't easy!.

tell me about it ... didn't help either that I followed a thread on this forum showing an image of the top metal clips being pushed up by a screwdriver which locked the air vents in even tighter - personally think the original poster of the image ought to be shot as in the process of removing the vents I ended up with some minor edge damage on the aluminium dash so going to need either a repair if possible or a replacement one of those too ...
