I'm after my first Z4, I've been looking at the 2.0i Sport mainly for the balance of running costs although I would consider a 2.5i. Ideally the car will have the comfort package and heated seats.

I've seen this one and given it a test drive, but there doesn't seem much movement on price. I think it's probably worth closer to 8k?

I'm based in Bournemouth but would travel around 50 miles for the right car.

the 2.0 is the least reliable of the Z4 (pre 2009) range

I would go for the 2.5 or 3.0 if you can stretch to it?

Great, just what I wanted to hear! So what's the beef with the 2.0i SE, I've only had my 2008 model for a couple of months and so far so good. What should I be looking out for? :(

If it's any help Dudda, I paid £6950 from a trader for my 2008 as described, it had 58,000 miles, no road tax, 8 months mot, Hpi etc, I chose to put a full set of tyres on it , though it probably only needed 2. Changed the front pads, 2 new rear coils, 2 front bushes, 2 rear bushes, Hunter 4 wheel alignement, full service history from independent - so it says in the book, 2 owners. some damage to front lip, repaired and resprayed for £134 - top job.

so, I guess all told it's standing me in at around £7,900 exc road tax. - bought last November. It looks and handles like a 'minter' now so reckon I did alright. It was bought near Edinburgh. I specifically did not want the sport due to the stiffer ride and lower height - a car needs to be as practical as poss in my mind and reasonably comfy but I ended up with msport seats, staggered rims etc, so sport version in all but name but a bit more practicality. :D

From the various posts I have read, problems with the manifold and sensors are a common issue on the 2.0 pre and postlift models

I didn't think it was any worse than the 2.5 or 3.0, I've seen a lot of threads about engine tapping noises on the 6 cyl which concerns me?

I've had a chat with the dealer for nearest decent looking 2.5 however I don't think there's going to be enough movement on the price.

I've driven diesel Golfs and A3's the last 5 years so the 2.0 model felt pretty nippy and I was happy with the sound of the 4 cyl.

The car did tramline a bit but I guess that's down to the size of the wheels and run flats. I have to say I didn't mind the sport suspension or seats.

That's good to know, this has 6 months tax, apart from last service all BMW, 9 months mot, rear tyres and pads were recently done. I think I might be able to push down to 8400/8500 but just trying to figure out if that's about right. Having had company cars for ages I've not had to worry about making decisions like this. The car is in great condition apart a tiny bit of damage to the front splitter.

Wow! £50 under £10K, they do make me laugh sometimes. :D

I think the sport seats are great, it was just the suspension, ditching the run flats is the usual remedy to cure the tramlining, after you've eliminated any other possibilities of course.
