Hi,

I am after a genuine BMW original backbox for my 3.0si.

According to realOEM (http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BU52&mospid=49303&btnr=18_0654&hg=18&fg=20) the backbox for an auto is different, so I am after one for a manual 3.0si. Mine is a roadster, if that makes any difference (although I don't believe it does http://realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=18307555350)

Many thanks

Dan

Whats the plan Dan?

The plan (if you can call it that), is to do something like this http://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=52845

I am happy to give it a go with my backbox... but given the cost of a replacement, thought I would see if I can line up a spare from someone committing to a proper aftermarket system.

Have you got welding equipment?

I don't, but a friend of mine has kindly agreed to conduct the surgery. I quote "Sure, I can slice up a silencer box for you."

What's the worst that can happen? :D

Ok to be honest what can go wrong!! I was going to offer for assistance with the android integration. But you friend is no doubt closer happy to help if needed.

I think the actual back box is the same between the auto and manual trans versions on the Si cars. The difference is in the center muffler (positioning perhaps?). Remember that unlike the M models which are sectioned, our exhaust is one piece off the headers. Very curious to see what the interior of the Si box looks like. I've opened a back box from a 2004 3.0i and the internals appear to be routed differently then the Si. Please post pics of your surgery. TIA
