Want to buy a new bicycle...

Helmet - mine's a 'catlike' but really no substitute than going to your bike shop and trying them on, some will fit some won't, everyone has a different size/shape head...

Lock - get the best you can afford if leaving the bike unattended anywhere - check you home insurance to be sure the bike is covered under your contents and any pre-requesites of cover - ie garaged and locked up etc

Lights - again best and as many as you can afford. I use three on the front (yes 3):

knog boomer
something I can't find...
hope vision 1 (so I can see)


two on the rear:

cat-eye dual led strip
fibre flare

anything else...
some kind of storage like a saddle bag

mudguards - sad but keeps you dryer - which you wont need if you're buying a11y's bargain ;)
waterproofs...

Spare inner tube(s) for the inevitable punctures...

not all of the above will be required straight away...

So went into Halfords and found out they have a 3 for 2 on bike accessories :D

Helmet: Met Terra (£60)
Lock: Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 (£50 - free)
Light: Cateye Econom Rapid 3 (£60)
Pump: Bikehut Performance Track Pump (£28)

Also, got a bottle (£8 - free) and a holder for it (£10).

So all in and after savings - £158
 
Not much luck with bicycles it seems...
F*cked up the right pedal arm a few weeks back and a rear puncture yesterday! Other than for fitness reasons I also got it to save a few quid on travel! :roll:
Still beats being 100's of meters underground though! :driving: (we need a similar smiley but for riding a bicycle)

puncture resistant tyres (no jokes about runflats please...) are the way forward...

that and carry some spare inner tubes ;)

how did you manage to damage the right pedal arm :o
