Just over a year ago I parted company with my e85 after a troubled 2 year ownership. I loved driving the old zed but it was always letting me down. To cut a long story short am after a new toy and a e89 ticks all the boxes. Am I crazy to consider another zed :? The safe option is to buy a TT but the zed is a thing of beauty.......

Endless problems ...roof motor failure, rear springs, engine management light randomly lighting up. Oil leak somewhere on the engine :? Ratchet mechanism on handbrake failing, fog lights misting up ooh and the abs module thingy. Gulp....

Just got rid of my TT was worse than my other halts renault clio and thats saying something. If you do decide on TT, 3.2 is the way to go I believe. I have had a mk 1 and 2 the 2 was by far the better. But they are both boring to drive in comparison to the Z or my previous S2000.

Been very few issues so far with the E89s, most people's complaints are the usual hard ride, run flats etc. 19 inch wheels come in for some stuck but that's a bmw wide issue.

You want to get yourself into one and have a little test drive, you'll love it. What are you looking at engine wise? And new or used/ex demo?

If I got another problem z4 I'd kick myself as it was a constant worry. Looks wise the zed wins every time but the mk2 TT isn't ugly either

Looking at a 2ltr engine which is more powerful than my old e85. Maybe a 2-3year old car am comfortable with a 20k budget at the minute.

The 2l E85 seemed to have a collection of problems unique to that engine - ask andysat...or as he'd say

I've had 3 E89s, 23i, 28i, 20i. No probs at all, but I did buy ex-demo or new each time.

Favourite has to be the current 20i auto, smooth as silk but ballsy enough when I want it to be :D

Better hurry up then, and spring will soon be here.
Do you think prices are going to go up for the warmer weather? Need to do some test driving asap. I think a 20k budget might have to alter for the right car

Well if the usual demand and supply rules apply, then yes. But there may be enough cars to go round, who knows. I would assume that more sales take place in the spring, does anyone know this for sure?

Bought our MSport 20i in December - The dealer was saying it would have certainly cost us at least £1k more come March/April (but then they're always after the next sale aren't they). I wouldn't have thought it would be such a marked difference on a hard-top convertible but then the onset of sunshine clearly increases sales and drives prices upwards.

Hope you find your perfect Zed!

Is there a buyers guide on here for the e89? Is there a problem with all 19 inch alloys? Using my mobile at the moment so its difficult to use the search function :(

i have had my z4 for just over a year now. its a 2003 with 78k when i got it. i was a bit worried about the up keep on it, but i have had nothing but joy with it. not had to spend a penny on it apart from your service costs and i do all that myself anyway so not even expensive. can't be happier with it. thing is you will find bad cars out there in every make and model. i have friends that have £40k plus cars and are always taking them to the dealer with issues. just make sure when you look at them have someone with you that knows what he is looking for.

Made me smile reading this ....... no offence ....... but quite a few on here would look at that list and just see a few wee things to do at the weekend ........
if these things genuinely come under your heading of "endless problems" ...... Id look at something else.
